I need an intervention...

I don't know if anyone can help you here…. perhaps enable you, but not help you! I started out with 18--- I had to order 15 in the bargain mix and added two extra americanas to make sure I got them. Then they added in an extra chick. I only needed MAYBE 8. I expected loss, being shipped chicks and this being my first time raising chickens. Well… I lost one at one week old. I lost another at maybe 14 weeks old to a hawk. Here I sit, with 16 out in the coop and I just ordered 8 more pullets and 2 roosters… I don't know if we can be helped…. and I also don't know if I want to be helped!! LOL!

Today I caught myself researching turkey's and figuring out where to build a pen for them. BAD! BAD!

I wanted a half dozen guineas. But you have to order 30 of them.
After selling some I finally got down to 8 guineas. This is a good number.
But then...........I heard about some coral blue guineas. MUST have them!
I wanted 2. But I bought all 17 babies.
Alright I'll sell the excess.
6 of them stayed which gives me 14 guineas.
And I can't wait to start hatching their eggs.
Promise I won't keep any more. .... Maybe....

Our next door neighbor, (who we found out after living next door to for 15 years that he's my hubby's cousin, oops a tangent) is getting two turkeys. When they told me that, I automatically wanted to research turkeys and get some. Thank goodness my self control kicked in. I'll just go see theirs every day!!

My 12 year old DS said, "Hey, we should NEVER get turkeys. They get too aggressive." Really??? Never heard that before. Let me research it....

Ok, so how big a pen do I have to build next?

I just want them for thanksgiving, for now. That's not too bad I don't think?? Lol

I had to stop visiting my friend who has a pen of red golden and golden pheasants, I kept wanting to buy hatching eggs!

So yesterday we bought 4 baby chicks; 1 Easter Egger, 1 White Leghorn and 2 Buff Orpingtons. Unfortunately one of the Orpingtons didn't make it through the first night. Because of how soon the little chicky passed I thought I would see if there was any possibility they would replace her, and the manager was happy to help. So while replacing my second Orpington I decided I would get just a couple more. This time I grabbed 2 red Sexlinks. My boyfriend wasn't as excited as I when I told him we have a total of 6 now, but he will be when he's enjoying their eggs later this year :) I gotta say I'm totally addicted now and cannot wait to get our coop finished (primarily made of free pallets and materials!) and see how much space we have so I can plan for more next year! This is so much fun and I'm glad to have found a group that is as excited about this as I am. Thanks for all the great advice guys

Orpingtons are the sweetest little things! The sexlinks are too. Oh heck, there are too many sweet ones to list, lol!! Congrats and welcome to the addiction!
