I need brooder ideas ....

You all sure have a lot of ideas for big and small amounts of chickies!

I am still debating over getting the Ecoglow. I think it would be really great in the summer but I still haven't justified the amount of money it costs when I know I need a big heat lamp in the winter and can change bulbs to get the right warmth.
However, simulating a hen....that would be nice for the babies.

here are some photos of mine.

it is 8 ft long

has two levels that are 18 inches high, and one area that is 3 ft high at the end (on top) for when i have bigger chicks in there and they want to jump or roost.

it is 18 inches deep.

I will eventually put some real doors on it that have fine window screening so the chicks wont toss the wood chips everywhere... but for now i just have cheap plasic netting that hooks onto some screws to close.

Ameraucanas moved out of the top, and now I have silkies in there with some marans chicks

my favorite things about this design:

-it's slim, so it's easy to reach the chicks

-because of the vertical beams inside, i can easily put up partitions to separate younger and older chicks

soon i will have this thing FULL of chicks... I have 13 eggs in the bator + adding 42 to that this weekend.

Hey, never thought about making one end higher for roosting purposes.

Mine start by roosting on the edge of the tubs at about 3 weeks old and I know they need a better arrangement. most often they get dare devil and wind up falling/flying down into the floor brooders where the bigger chicks find them "game". Not a good situation.

This thread has certainly helped with more ideas for my growing addiction.....er, I mean, growing business.

We call it.....Chickenvision...... I am still looking for some "old school" knobs to put on it. Its cool because we can sit on the couch and watch them.

And my nephews love it!

Okay, I said "No chickies in the house!" Dag gone I meant it!

So okay, the aquarium on the buffet table is not really where they grow up. They just come out of the hatcher and go straight in the aquarium until all are through hatching and then down to the barn into the brooder room.
However, I hatch every week or sometimes every few days. Gosh, I am so easy! How did that happen???

(The chickenvision reminded me of that!)
