I need to switch dog foods. Help on brands?

Where do y'all get the Diamond brand. I haven't seen it around here.

Purina One is your best quality for the $. You can get a 50# bag at Sam's for about $35. Purina Pro plan is even better but is expensive. We feed Pro Plan but my nephew works for the complany and we get it for 1/2 price.
We've tried most of the better quality brands that the local feed store carries and we haven't been satisfied. The best indicator for our dogs is the amount of Gas they produce, less gas = better food, When thay make our eyes water and our noses burn this means BAD food.

I feed Solid Gold Hunchen Flocken my dogs coats shine brilliantly, healthy teeth, bright eyes, only poo twice a day, and their poos aren't gross and runny, and they are solid poos which is healthy poos. Plus i love the fact that every bag is air sealed shut.

It's like 30 some dollars for a 15lb bag (it may be cheaper than that it's passing my mind right now on the price as we've just been buying it so much now id ont think about it anymore---and we pay with our bank card). Both of my dogs are in the mid 20lb range...they are both fed a cup of food a day. It takes a little over 2 weeks to go through that bag and it's a great food...NO CORN

I also suppliment with eggs (whole), and healthy stew leftovers, rice, anything else that's healthy for dogs, that we have left over. I also cook them up healthy treats.

Solid Gold Hunchen Flocken is right up there with Innova and other high quality feeds...i'd feed Innova but no specialty stores sell it around here...

Purina One isn't a great brand....may be $$$ wise but health wise it's not great at all....very low quailty ingredents, CORN...being one of the main ickies.

I, too, feed Purina One. This is the 2nd generation of adults that are doing beautifully on it--glossy coats, white teeth, good flesh without being fat, no gas. I have Dobies and GSDs.

The Solid Gold brand is comparable to the Natural Balance I've been feeding them. It's $35 for a 30 lb bag. My two boxer mixes are 50 lbs each and eat accordingly. They can pack it away. I'm looking for a mid-range food that's still healthy. I realize as the price goes down it is likely that the quality will as well. I need a food that is still nutritionally balanced and is not corn based. In a perfect world I could feed them the zillion dollar food, but the economy is tanking and all my bills are getting higher. I'm trying to be proactive on managing my budget.

Purina One is getting lots of good reviews from actual users. We ate that before I switched to the Nutro (our step before the Natural Balance). They did fine on it. I just got guilted into stepping up to the really good stuff.

The dogs don't so much have discriminating tastes anyway. These are the same dogs that like to scarf down the kitty litter box crunchies and chew on ooky moles they dig out of the backyard.

Another vote for Purina one. Great feed and the dogs do great on it. Have raised two Schnauzers to over 16 years on it and my Lab does great on it.

Our neighbor has a big black poodle that they saved and found out it was allergic to wheaten so they have to buy special dog food just for the dog.

I agree with watching for fillers.. more expensive dog food is for that reason.. it is better.. as a result you can get buy with much less at feeding time if your dog is not highly active/working dog.. I have an 80# plus lab who gets one cup of Iams Large Breed Dog Food in the morning and one and a few extra pellets thrown in at night.. I buy the 40 lb bag at Petsmart where it is frequently on sale/special or has rebates and a bag for my dog lasts a very long time.. so in the long run it is cheaper than a bag of Purina where you end up having to feed more due to poorer quality..I am also one of those people who make sacrifices for myself before my animals

Well, I priced a bunch of stuff today and read all the labels at the grocery store and TSC. Sigh. Purina One is the same cost as Natural Balance. At least Natural Balance routinely runs specials throwing in a free can of wet or a free meat roll. If the cost is the same I might as well keep them on Natural Balance.

Thanks for the input everyone. It's a fine line to walk. I certainly want to feed them good food. I'm just trying to find a balance.

I've been scrambling eggs for them now that the girls have starting producing. Can I feed them raw eggs? Is there any benefit to feeding raw eggs over cooked?

I have also used diamond and it has been good for them.If anyone knows anything cheaper and just as good I also am interested as we are fighting foreclosure.
