I promised terrie, but...I got it!

But if your insurance company refuses to pay for the drug, isn't that like not having insurance? Doesn't the drug company see this?

You are not alone Gritsar. About a year or so ago my husband had Crohn's disease like symptoms. They actually never diagnosed him with Crohn's disease but treat him for it anyway and his symptoms are all gone while on medication. (He could not work without the medications - He could barely leave the house) One of the first medications they put him on was $300.00 per week out of pocket. We bought it as long as we could, maybe 5 months then finally told the doctor that we couldn't continue it and he put him on a cheaper one that is $100.00 per week. All in all just his medication out of pocket bill is around $700.00 per month. Of course that seems like a bargain since at one time we were at $1500.00 per month.

We thought about buying on line from Canadian pharmacy's but I'm pretty sure that it was illegal. Going to jail was not an option and the fear of not knowing who you were buying from on line was a bit scary.

We've really had to make some major lifestyle changes to get through this but a year or so into it we're doing much better. I really pretty much in the beginning kinda panicked and had a hard time dealing with the reality of it, lost some friends who couldn't deal with my nervous break down. That was hard.

Now, a year or so later things are so much better but I completely understand what you're going through.

One thing I have been told though is that even though you have insurance if you contact the company that makes the medication that you need, there may very well be a program for reduced rates or coupons to assist in purchasing the med, some at no charge, depending on eligibility. They usually will have an application type form they will send you to see if you qualify.

Thanks y'all. I'm going to contact the drug company tomorrow and PUSH.
I'm on day two of the alternate medicine and I can already tell it's going to do the same thing it did to me years ago...make me very sick to my stomach and very moody.

Once your doctor has tried other meds that do not work, the insurance company has no choice but to cover it. I had to go through that with my cholesterol meds. NOTHING worked. But one drug.

I've been there and had to fight my insurance company. What's the saying about the squeaky wheel getting grease? I really hope you can get the prescription.

Medical insurance companies make me SO mad, I dropped insurance years ago.

We only needed it once in the past 5 years, and that was when my son landed up in hospital - we got coverage from the state as I only work part time and our income is pretty low. We have a large chunk to pay ourselves, but less - way way less than if I'd been paying insurance premiums all these years.

These companies are only out to make a profit, and the way they do it is by charging stupid premiums and then denying coverage for things THEY think aren't needed. Its all BS!

Perhaps you can contact the State health department, that might be of some help. Otherwise a lawyer for sure... good luck, I really hope you get the meds you need.

I was going to give the alternate med. a fair trial, even though I now know it was a med. I took back in the 90s. Figured I'd stay on it for two weeks before I contacted the doctor.
However, I've been nauseous all day (just like yesterday) and it's making my right kidney ache (I have a polycystic right kidney). Guess I'll be calling the doc on Monday.
