I Quit!!

Quote:
Cardio exercise after a good checkup from a doctor. Ex smokers typically gain weight due to eating and metabolic changes in their bodies. Make it a double good whammy by adding in a good dose of exercise.

Great job too btw.

I hope and pray you are your SO can stay off the smoking. To everyone else who posted and has quit smoking--Congrats to all of you also. I don't smoke & neither does my husband. Hubby dipped and finally he quit but in times of stress he sometimes wants to start again. I have told him I will buy him whatever he needs to stay quit. His choice--Jolly Ranchers and Sunflower seeds.

Thats awesome guys! I started smoking when I was about 14. When I was 21 we found out that my MIL had lung cancer. SHe fought it for 16 months before she passed. About half the way through her fight I decided I never wanted to put myself or my family through that much pain and agony and quit. Thats been 6 years ago and life is so much better. People have already mentioned how much better your taste buds are... It also goes for your smeller! Your sense of smell gets so much better it is amazing! This can be a good thing and a bad thing. I can smell so much better now that I rarely go to the mall because walking past all the perfume/cologne stands is sometimes enough to make my eyes start to water. Keep up the good work. It gets easier every day!

Awesome job! I'm rooting for you! Everytime you have the urge, just post here in BYC

It's a vice on it's own, isn't it? (Gee, I need to go take a BYC break...)

I want to quit, but I would end up in jail for what I would do to the family...

Thanks everyone!

It is a struggle some days, but really not as bad as I expected. I guess it's because I never did know how to do anything half way. I either do something or I don't, but I've never been any good at just "sorta" doing it.

So far my "crutch" of choice has been just chewing on a toothpick when I get the urge to smoke. I'm not much on eatting seeds, I'm a pretty big feller, I like something a bit bigger if I'm gonna eat. Lost about five pounds this week too. The meds I'm on for my heart take away my hunger, so just don't want anything much.

I tried to quit before and turned into a mean, hateful ogre.... this time... not so much. Been pretty easy goin' for some reason.

Good for you!

My dad chewed toothpicks when he quit years ago and there were little piles of wood in all the ashtrays.

But it works and there are no calories! Keep on going! Proud of you!

I am proud of you. I quit for 10 months, starting two weeks before cancer surgery and continuing through the chemo and radiation treatment. But I un-quit as soon as I went back to work again.....

Right now, I'm cutting down. I am not smoking IN my new house, but only outside. Because I smoked the most when not at work, but at home, this has reduced my consumption. As soon as I find all the component parts, I'll go back on electronic cigarettes. The nicotine-laden mist kept me from withdrawal symptoms which made me want to kill everyone around me, including the dogs, cat, and those demanding chickens. (The electronic cigarettes work just fine until the battery dies, and if you don't have a second, charged battery, it's awfully simple to go buy smokes!)

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for yourself - and I hope to join the non-smoking ranks before too long. Keep up the great work, MFB!!
