I rescued a tame chicken and now I'm a chicken owner

Hi everyone. She she just left my house with some supplies to tie her over until she can get to a feed place! Rosy is in a coop where she works. She showed my the picture of the coop and it's beautiful and big!! I thought she looked about 10 weeks on the pictures too.

It's unfortunate it's under such circumstances, but that's very good of you to take this poor chicken in. It's also very good of you to help out @lissalischicks

The young chicken could be a bantam and appears to be a pullet from the picture provided. However, in case it's not, you are best to go with a plain chick starter or grower that does not have a calcium product it in case the chicken does develop into a young roo. The chicken has red that could develop further. If it's a pullet and it's not laying eggs, she does not require a calcium additive like oyster shells until she begins to lay.

Yeah, I am not sure sorry. I would say that she is still young but whether to go grower or layer

In the short term, until someone chimes in with an age estimate, I would personally sway towards grower. I think for the short term, until age is determined or if/when she lays, either is not going to do her any harm for the short amount of time she might be eating the wrong one.

Yeah, I would say grower feed would probably be best. I recently started my pullets on layer feed at 18 weeks, and they looked older than Rosy looks in the pic. I wouldn't want to give an estimate on age, though, cause I'm no where near an expert.

Aww, poor baby! I am glad you were there to save her!

Go to your feed store and pick up a waterer, feeder and either starter feed if she is not yet of laying age, or layer feed if she is of age.
