I set eggs 2/27/10 ** DUE 3/20th-3/21st** WE"RE HATCHING!!!!

Day 14 for me. I candled all my eggs and removed the clears and 2 blood rings. All but 1 of the eggs left in the bator I saw movement in, so I'm glad that my temp spike the other day didn't kill them.

They are ready for lock down on Wed. I can't wait!

A blood ring is where a developing embryo dies and the blood spreads out away from the dead embryo. It looks like a ring around the middle of the egg. If I hadn't already cracked it open, I'd take a picture of it for you. I never take mine out until I'm absolutely sure. And by Day 14, it's very obvious. At Day 14, most of the egg is dark, except the tip and the air sac and you can see movement. (if you hold still and let your eyes adjust) At Day 14 an egg with a blood ring in it will just have a small dark blob and the blood circle around the egg. More of the egg will be light and of course, there's no movement. But don't toss an egg JUST because you don't see movement. I have had some that I either didn't see movement on, but they still hatched.

Yup - I left an egg in the 'bator once that I was sure was dead. At Day 14 or so, all I could see when I candled the egg was a strange, fuzzy black outline with light around the edges, and absolutely no movement - which usually indicates a late-term death. Imagine my surprise when it was the first egg to pip! He hatched out "sticky", but he's the most beautiful bantam black cochin roo today!

This is killing me, with so many of you guys getting chicks already. My ducklings still have 2 weeks to go, and my chicken eggs are only on Day 3!
