I survived my first week working for Walmart...

yeah, the remodel team is totallly different. I have worked at Wal-mart for a little over a year and in Grocery, its hard but keeps youbusy. It started off great but the management had gone down hill and they are trying to implement too many new things that Corporate says needs to be done NOW so we are totally in a screwed up mess. I am currently on my 4th department manager and our stores survey I am sure will not be good. Morale is low, too much work for too few people- my store grocery has all grocery, also candy department and all register items and clip strips hanging around the store (impulse items) I am often the only one there during the day as every other week my Dept manager is on overnight shift to reset shelf mods. We are remodeling the store in August....they say it will get better but I doubt it. We will see. Most dept managers in my store have stepped down from their positions and some others have been FORCED into taking more than one department or a differnet one than they have had all along.
But if they would straighten out the management issues, things would be better. Otherwise, I do enjoy the work and the pay and benefits are better than anything that I have had before.

I work in the bakery at a Super WalMart. It is HARD work, and I come home exhausted. I only work 16 hours a week, Mondays and Tuesdays, and every morning when I get up I question whether I can continue doing this job. I usually leave home at 4:15am to get to work by 5am. I don't mind the store or the job or the people (mostly), but I've been a stay-at-home-mom for 16 years before I started at WM last August, and I think I just want to be a SAHM again. I thought I worked hard at home taking care of my family, but that's nothing compared to what we do in the bakery!

I worked for them for 8 months, and was worked into the ground, I don't believe all Wal Marts are that way. i really enjoyed the job, but the stress level went though the roof when one certain manager was there--and it wasn't just me complaining. They lost really good people including me. The senselessness of it is what bothered me, well that and the physical pain of lifting 50lb bags of dogfood and potting soil and cases of water while standing on a ladder. The other 2 overnight managers were great--we always got our work done with no drama. I do think WalMart is a good company to work for, it is a steady paycheck and if you have a great team it can alot of fun.

So far I haven't come across any problems. There is one girl who can be sort of witchy and she was ALWAYS texting on her cell phone. That made working with her very difficult. Apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed that because a day or two after, the supervisors told everyone that if they are caught with cell phones out on the floor, they will get sent home. That has put a stop to it for now.

Yesterday I was temporarily promoted to supervisor because my supervisor had to leave early. That was neat and I had my own little group of people to look after. We got everything in our section done and one of the higher ups complimented me on my supervising job and the fact that everything was done so well. That made me very happy!

I also got my first pay check and survived two weeks. My feet kill me after work and this week was tough because I had to take care of all the animals before and after work. I'm definitely enjoying the weekend!

I don't actually think I will be working at walmart when the remodel is over, but i might if they rehire me for christmas break.

LOL...how're you liking your routines? Do you have the electric "hub" yet??

Remodel team is completely different, are they going to keep you for another job after the remodeling is done in the store? Kudos on the new job! It is a blast to work with friends in the store, but the work can be hard, and VERY frustrating at times

Edit: If you do stay on for the Christmas rush, PLEASE take time for yourself. The stress level increases 10 fold and many associates lose their cool easily (everyone does at some point). So take some time to chillax and recoup yourself, whether it be on your days off or whenever you can at work. You are the most important thing. Try to make friends with your fellow associates, it will help you. It's kind of like having a big extended family, but you get paid to deal with them!

We do not have the electric hubs at our store yet. I am assuming once the remodel is over, they will be in place. No one actually uses the paper ones yet as it is.

Haha, it's funny to see this thread resurface!

I'm still at walmart...been there for a month now. The work is good and I'm enjoying my paychecks! It's nice to have money again!

I was unofficially promoted to "assistant supervisor" after two weeks of work so I direct my little group of people when my supervisor leaves for the day or can't come in for work. They were talking about trying to get me officially promoted to supervisor, but I haven't heard anything about it since last week.

This past week we moved electronics. That was quite the job! Moving automotive was my least favorite job so far though. I had to move windshield wipers and it was a pain in the butt!

Same here. The paper things are a joke. Makes me feel as though I have "big brother" watching over everything I do. If they can't sit down and watch the tapes, how will they know I'm actually doing the things they want me to check off on the checklist? Ridiculous.

Yeah. I'll do the electric hub just as soon as they put a time clock up front...

Chickerdoodle, congrats on the "kinda" promotion! I'm not sure, but do you guys get bonuses during the remodel? I've never been there for the remodel, but seeing as sales would be way down, I'm doubtful bonuses would be present.
