I think I got scammed…

Not good. I know you said you researched ahead but I'll ask regardless:
1. How warm is your brooder?
2. Can you share a photo of your setup
3. Is the chick eating and drinking?

You'll have a hard time finding chicks right now with people freaking out about eggs. Post to see is anyone in your area has chicks and beg for at least one, preferably several others. Don't worry about breed, sex, its about trying to preserve the one you have.

I hope the little ine makes it.

As to the breeder, file a credit card dispute. That's just nonsense.
Im using the Brinsea heating plate that has the adjustable legs! I have it set up to where one side is lower than the other so that they can find a spot that suits them (since my one that survived is a little bigger than the one I just got from a local lady!) and so far so good. They aren't screaming chirping at me, and seem super comfy. I tried a few diff combinations of heights on it and they were SURE to let me know vocally if it wasn't right for them, so I just kept adjusting it until they were chirping happily, quietly, and not mad haha.

heres my setup! I know it's still the small bin but the black one I think is maybe, just maybe a week, have to double-check with the lady. and the one I got is about to be 2 weeks old. when should I upgrade them to the little playpen thing I have? its one of those circular little kitten playpens. I was gonna do pee pads bottom layer with fresh flakes on top. is there a better bedding I should use? trying to make it easy as possible with no danger to them. I also have a roosting stick thing for them to climb on. its little. 3 diff rods.
im feeding organic starter crumbles and I was feeding electrolyte water but now, just normal water, i change it a few times a day because these guys love to poop in it, haha.
Are the chick stick treat things worth getting, or is that a gimmick?

Everyone is eating and drinking fine. They are pooping SO MUCH more than the first week, jeez! I feel like I change the papertowels so much.

I actually was overwhelmed with people offering their chicks here locally! I had my pick from so many different people, thankfully, because I needed another chick so badly. (Wish I just went local to begin with but hey)

I just finished filing my dispute. I hope they rule in my favour!!!

Hey, don't beat yourself up over those things. We all make mistakes, even when we do tons of research. Sometimes it's just luck. The new chick is SO cute, and the old one is as well! I'm sure they'll do great and go broody many times when they're adults :)
thank you 🥲 yeah, you're right! and I know it's so cute I wish I got two from her! I'm thinking the older one might be a cockerel but I'm not sure how to tell or if I can even tell yet since they're still so young. It stands so much more upright than the other, (well to me anyway) and is soooooo sassy and bold

I don't know how it works in the USA with hatcheries and the sale of chickens, but I think the best thing a beginner should do is join the nearest breeders' club! In that club you can hear smart advice from experienced breeders, get recommendations on where to get or buy the desired breed , participate in exhibitions...
That way you will buy the best quality and the price will be much lower than in the hatchery.
I think that 300 dollars is too much for 3 silkies, in the European Union you will pay a maximum of 32 dollars for a high quality silkie hen.
Chicks from quality parents cost about $3.72 per chick.

200 for one and 50 for each of the others. If it's the only place offering them that can be found, some people might think they're worth it
Did they proffer they the breeding line, are the chicks feom a prize winning line? These aren't show birds.
I feel like the worlds biggest idiot if im being honest. lol i dont normally make mistakes like these when doing anything (i'm usually SO thorough with my research on any given hobby or what have you) :barnie
Don't feel bad. We all make mistakes, especially when we start. I wasn't actually referring to you in my statement. I take issue when sellers create false scarcity. It's not your fault.
