I think TSC did it again. Barred rocks possibly all roos!

I believe you. I've seen so many situations in those stores that it is no wonder people end up with things they didn't expect.

It's just that I have never, ever seen barred Rock sexed pullets for sale at a TSC here. It's always a bin of hybrid layer pullets, a bin of SR bantams or ducks, and a bin of the SR "featured breed of the week". I have seen layer pullets in a combined bin with a straight run "breed of the week" when the plumage was obviously different. This is what I am presuming happened.

Heck, I've seen them put meat birds in with layers and that results in some very unhappy people who get meaties by mistake!

And the signage? Yeah. Sometimes it looks like someone dumped a pile of signs on the floor and then there is a hand written sign on the bin. That's usually trouble.

I purchased 12 chicks at TSC in Centralia, whom I believe gets them from Cackle Hatchery. Some breeds were separated into pullets and/or straight run. I'm pretty sure, but not certain, that all of mine were in pullet bins. 3 of the 12 ended up being cockerels. I assume that it is the hatchery that separates them when shipped and they have a 90% sex guarantee. I was very happy with my TSC chick purchase -- they were all very healthy.

If you post new photos when they are close to 8 weeks old, I'm sure we can tell you what's what

I sure will if I don't catch the one crowing in the act before then. My daughter says she is seeing waddles and a slightly bigger comb on one. I need my glasses and check them out better.

I thought barred rock cockerels feathered in with more of a white with black stripes, where the pullets are black with white stripes. Based on color I would say all are pullet, but then again my understanding of this could be off I'm still pretty new to chickens. Sorry you had bad luck though, I haven't had issues with my tsc chicks being wrong yet.
