DO NOT WASH THEM RIGHT WHEN YOU COLLECT THEM! This takes off the bloom which is protective outer seal that keeps harmful bacteria out of the eggs. When you are ready to eat them wash them right before using them. Enjoy!

I am sorry if this is in the wrong section. I have searched for similar posts and found nothing. If it is wrong, please move.

I am new to chickening, and don't know very much. here is my question.

I want to eat the eggs that my chickens lay, but I am not sure how to handle the eggs before consumption. What do I do?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance

What I do is take the egg w my hand, crack it into a pan, then, and this is the best part, eat it.

It really depends on how you want to prepare them. If scrambled then cracked the eggs into a bowl and either throw the shell away, compost it, or save them to feed back to your hens. Anyway grab and fork and stir the egg in the bowl then add a little milk and stir some more, oil or butter a pan and dump the egg mixture in, then use a spatula to scrape against the bottom of the pan.
If frying then oil or butter a pan and allow it to get hot then crack the egg straight into the hot pan and do whatever with the shell again like when scrambling. If you want to boil it set it in a pot of water and put the pot of water with the egg in it on the stove and cut it on. I like my boiled eggs with a tiny bit of runny yolk so as soon as the water boils I put a lid on the pot and turn off the heat. Let it sit for maybe 1-2 minutes then take the egg and immediately submerge it in really cold water. It is beat to boil older eggs as the fresher they are the harder they are to peel but usually if you can get them really cold really fast they will peel fine.
A dirty shell is a personal issue...I don't eat the shell so I don't worry about it too much... just like I don't wash my oranges or bananas...

Oh and if you want to know if an egg is good or bad if the egg feels really light it is bad...but to make sure run a deep bowl with enough warmish water to submerge the egg and if it sinks it is good and if it floats it is bad...
When an egg goes bad it has bacteria in it that basically eat the egg and leave gross bacteria air behind. So a light egg is missing the egg part of the egg and will float
