oh i'm still checking them out too. never fear... a couple are ahead of the rest. but then i think she stole some eggs over a couple days. she started sitting there were 5 in there, when i realized she was broody there were 11. 2 were clear but also first eggs i think. i think she started sitting somewhere between the 5th and 6th... so i'm saying 6th since those would be the younger eggs. so thats... lockdown on the 24th and hatch by the27th or so. 8) gotta get these guys out of their shells first tho before i can put the young'uns in the hatcher tho.

now it's bedtime.

it quit raining. I take the four new mouse traps out to the garage. They re baited with smoked pork chops that were grilled:drool I set the traps and turn off the light to candle. Before I could even finish candling the five dozen on the agenda, one of the traps snaps! Bingo, a mouse! The place is lousy with them. I hate to poison them in case one of the chickens eats one. So I am slowly whittling back the population.

I used to raise pet mice, they are cute! But I don't care for the wild cousins and I hate wild rats! We have two barn cats but they usually don't make it into the garage. My house cat goes in there and enjoys watching them but have never seen her catch one. Too well fed I guess.
I candle on day 10 or so, then maybe again before lockdown. Some folks do it every day. Personally, I have too many coops to build:-D

Just candled my duck eggs! They are on day five! I have three pure breds, and six mutts! All are forming! Im super excited!! I think im gonna candle my eggs daily!

I learned my lesson on that...it seems the less I candle the better my eggs do for some reason. I also went down to turning 1x daily on the one bator withour a turner and that seems to have brought my hatch rates up too. I personally think (even though its extremely hard) the less I mess with them the better they do! But that may just be my wierd coincendential luck.

Day 4 today for my Catdance eggs and the majority of them are showing definite development. I did not touch my eggs until they had incubated for at least 24hours. After that candling before 3-5 days seemed pointless, though tempting!
