I Will Stop Candling I Will Stop Candling

I got them from SilkieSue, I think here on BYC. The only other place I look is ebay. I'm so bad about the auctions that I have an ebay app on my iphone so I can check my bids after I go to bed

I hate to lose. I spend almost as much time watching auctions as I do watching my 2 week old chicks and the bator. This is consuming most of my day, everyday. But, I love it....

Oh....the eggs I got from SilkieSue, out of 14 eggs, 10 are growing

I checked, this morning....

You will have to keep me informed on them! I have only bought eggs this one time. . . .but I feel a new addiction coming on!! I have been looking at them on ebay, but luckily my bator is booked solid for the next hatch! I did request another incubator for christmas from my mother, shhhhh don't tell my DH, he has NO idea!!

If I had to get a second bator my HD would kill me for sure..... Mine holds over 300 chicken eggs. Right now I have 5.5 dozen eggs in and more on the way
wee.gif
I keep telling DH that if I hatch all fall, those guys will be laying by late spring. Then we will have more eating eggs..... He doesn't know that I plan on hatching all those eating eggs

I have major bator envy right now! I feel completely inadequate with my little 24 egger

Don't feel inadequate, I just stumbled on the deal of a lifetime when I found this bator. I didn't set out to get a big one to begin with. My neighbor has this one and was not using it and sold it to me. Bless her!!!!! If I had not found this one I would have smaller bators all over the house by now.

I know my husband wishes I had one that only holds 10 eggs.

I think I would be in divorce court if I had that incubator! My husband didn't speak to me for a week when he found out I bought the small one! I wanted to scream "DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!"

Fortunatly, my husband really just wants to have something to b**** about. I know this because I bought a pair of Blue Splash Old English Game last weekend. His friends came over to eat dinner, and he made them all go out there to look (with a flashlight) at the cool roo I got at the auction
gig.gif
But, he still doesn't know about the eggs in the bator or about the ones coming tomorrow
hide.gif
Oh....please don't let him find this site

Our husbands must be kin! Mine is the same way! I told him I had sold a couple of mine and he threw a fit and said he liked those! So I didn't sell them and now he denies that ever happened! He will also go out and hold one of the roosters and talk all sweet to it, but then fusses about my $#" chickens! So to pacify him on this hatch I put 1 of that roosters babies in there, next hatch the order will completely fill it up. I might just "tell" him 1 is in there!

I agree 120% on that LOL

I may not candle every day (ok , well maybe 2 out of 3. ish...) but I do like keeping on top of who's doing what. I don't see any difference in opening the bator to candle once a day or so than if you had to turn the eggs multiple times by hand...

and if it helps, i did a short video last night for someone... you can find it here.

I have two 11 year olds coming over to candle polish eggs I set for them. We are making it a science project. It should be fun. They have never candled eggs before. The polish have been in the bator for 8 days so they should see something good!!!

Totally agree! It's not like I'm picking mine up and turning them around and around, lol. I simply put the flashlight on them. So far it hadn't hurt mine any!

oh have fun! 8)

reproduction of any way/shape/form always fascinated me. so much that i went to college and studied to be a vet.... biochem killed me tho. but i did get a BS in animal sciences, with concentrations in genetics nutrition and reproduction. so it's ideally suited to my chickens i guess, even though i worked with horses for much longer.. now i work from home on the phone because those horses abused me so badly LOL. and read up on everything 'chicken' between calls.

and get to listen to my roos sounding off all day long.
