I Will Stop Candling I Will Stop Candling

Why would you ever want to not candle. You could candle once a day and not hurt the egg/chick. Hens get off the nest when setting/hatching. The biggest problem with candling that I see is the humidity lost from the bator when opened. I have hatched for years and can honestly say I enjoy incubating/hatching is one of my favorite times of the year.

Oh I'm so bad. I have the Brinsea Mini Advance in the closet in the office. I'm in the office a lot. The 'bator starts beeping just before it turns the eggs. I'm so bad I mute the TV as soon as I hear the beeping just so I can also hear the motor turn the eggs. And smile.

I too am a candling addict.
I do it every night. 'Where's mum?' Asks the children, 'in the cupboard again ' replies DH
Like others say, its nice to see what's happening.
It's open the lid, put the light on tIe top, working in a line, any clear ones are moved to the right hand side to monitor in the next few days. LId down, humidity straight. Back up !!! I love my incubators !
I have 5 ducks now pipping and can see their beaks, so cute!

Favorite time of year... you mean you DON'T hatch year round?

No. I have found that my birds (Cochin bantams) do not grow to their full potential if hatched late in the year. They grow slowly and to be smaller at maturity. I don't know if it is because of the lack of daylight or the fact it gets quite COLD here over the winter.

It has to not be a good one, they are always right!

Right! I'll give him this though.. He admits he knows nothing and is always asking questions. (Although most are stupid.) ie: "So if you put a chicken egg in there can we have chicks?" Me: "No, we don't have a rooster."

Probably a combination of factors. But I want some spring layers, so I am going to try giving them extra protein and light .
