I Woke Up With A Mouse In My Bed

Maybe if it was alive, I might not be so icked out, only because it was kinda cute. But dead I think of rotting flesh, and that goes above and beyond cute. :: shiver ::

My cat DOES sleep on a pillow above my head. I can bet there will be one there in the future. I'll let you know

A few years ago my parents' cat started her own personal cache of mice in a spare tire in the garage. By the time my folks found the stash, it was a pulsing mass of goo.

Yeah, totally nasty.

Oh, and the chooks would LOVE a dead mouse!! Try it... they'll liiiike it.

The other day one of my chooks found a dead mouse that Tobey, my barn/house cat, had killed. It was mostly intact with some middle parts missing.

Said chicken pecked around on it a few seconds and before you could blink, she went slurp and down it went, head, tail and all!

One time when DH was traveling, I was lying in bed just drifting off, when I heard this little scritch-scratch somewhere in the air near my head. I leaned over and turned on the bedside lamp and, lo and behold, there was a wee mousie clinging to the top of the lamp shade!

Now I'm not really afraid of mice, but it startled me so much that I screeched and scared the poor mouse. He skittered off and after a few wakeful moments of wondering where he had gone, I went on to sleep.

Imagine my surprise when I got up the next morning to use the bathroom, and there was the poor little mousie floating inside the toilet. I always claimed that I scared him so much that he drowned himself!

ETA: And, Laurie, I love your blog and writing style, too! Big fan here!

DangerousChicken, I know how you feel. Except with us it's our minnie doxie, Maggie. She is tirelessly (sp) prey driven. So far she has brough us 2 blue tailed skinks, 1 blue tail skink tail, dead kitten, 3 dead birds (babies from nests in their yard that have fallen out), 2 mice, half a chipmunk (found laying on my bed

), several large grasshoppers, a few large beetles, lots of the big white grubworms and a cicada or two.

Maggie is unbelievably patient when stalking any kind of prey. The other two usually lose interest. They (we have 3) have a doggie door to an enclosed yard so they can come and go as they please.

Oh Punkin, you are much more patient with the doggie door antics than I would be. I'd have it nailed shut by now

What is a skink? A cross between a skunk and a mink?

BSC, thanks, sugar. I think it is funny he drowned himself. Is that wrong?

Okay... next dead mouse goes to the chooks... and I will be taking pictures!

We have caught a mouse a day for DAYS nw. Last night one of my kids was sick so we slept downstairs so as not to keep everybody up all night with coughing . . . you would not BELIEVE the noise those crazy beasties were making, partyin it up all night long.

We stuck with tthe humane traps for a while to please my yongest but they just don't work as well, so now we are back to plain old mouse death. Sigh.

My parents' 18 lb sheltie female is deadly to oppossums. I've lost count how many she has killed over the years.

And my mom swears that the dog wouldn't hurt my chooks. PFT.... riiiiiiight.
