It's okay. I will try and answer... If I ordered for a hatch date of September 15th I would have the chicks on the 17th. By the 15th of November they would be 2 months old and should be acclimated to the weather by then. Only difficulty may be, depending on the breeds you have currently, you should not put chickens and starts (young birds) together until they are the same size or they grew up together. It would be very easy to separate them in the coop by using chicken wire so they could all get used to each other. After a couple weeks, they should be able to mingle fine. Since we are so close together, I would be willing to raise them for another month for you as well.
I have eggs in the incubator right now and have eggs due to hatch on the 8th, 14th and 16th! Glad I have a big brooder to house these and the Blues when ordered. I'll be up to my eyeballs in chicks! Of course the numbers will dwindle with each show.
Hope this answers your questions Ladywoodsong and don't be discouraged by their age and weather. It will work out fine.
I'm not a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants sort....my husband is, but I'm not!
I am going to mull it over and when is the date you need to know by? If I get any, it will only be maybe 4 or 6, just to give you an idea.
I would be able to put them in my basement at first, we have a galvanized horse trough set-up down there from last time, so that's not a problem. The problem is when they get too big for that and need to be moved outdoors. My current flock are all brown egg layers and actually, I believe they're called "Black Stars". Could be wrong on that. They would be about 9 months old by that time. So, I just need to have a plan ahead of time of how to handle that issue.
How many birds do you have for the order now? Hopefully I will know where Im staying soon so can get some Iowa blues and some other chicks you might have to ship with them.

I will get back to you. Thank you!
9 months old by then isn't too bad. It is better to place the order as soon as possible to avoid somone else coming in, swooping down, and snatching them up so that all they have left is straight run. We all want to be assured of pullets. It has happened to me more times than you could imagine. Kinda like bidding in the last 20 seconds on Ebay! You could have a delay and not get it done! The sooner the better.
