Been very sick and very busy.. the two chicks due last weekend BOTH DIS AGAIN! Fully formed, absorbed and malpositioned... again... with 3 other staggered hatches I was about to just throw the whole damn incubator in the trash and just give up and decide my birds were the issue all the sudden. I had a week left on 3 eggs (rest were non-fertile... that rooster is a slacker in his new digs)...My husband asked me to humor him and start incubating my eggs upright in cartons. So, I did... I moved everyone into cartons, readjusted my thermometer measuring heights and my fan, and began turning my tilting my entire bater on a yoga block 7 times a day...
Yesterday was day 18 for the 3. One pipped internally and ruptured something and died. I knew this because my white egg suddenly became blackened across the air cell. And then... A CHICK!!! Last night I checked the eggs (also when I saw the bruising) and they were still sitting there. No movement. Nothing. Figured this was another upset. Checked them again 30 min later and a HUGE external pip. No sound. No nothing. Just a huge pip.
This morning at 730 it was at the 12 hour mark and given my recent luck I went ahead and peeled a tiny speck of shell off. And the membrane was still fully intact. I used medical tweezers and made the hole a tiny bit bigger and I heard her chirp for the first time!!
Within literally 15 minutes she started to zip (I have videos for YouTube I’ll add later) and I gave her a half hour and she only made it a bit around and was obviously struggling and clearly missing her mark. So I went in and carefully removed the top and she was beyond ready. You’d have thought she was on day 21. I put her back and she sat there for a few, kicked off her pants and is now (several hours later) siting happy in the brooder while the other egg is shaking up a storm in the Hatcher. Hopefully kiddo hatches!!
She is a Gold duckwing bantam/leghorn cross
