Ice Tea - Sweet or Unsweet?

*UNSWEET*

Omg, sweet=

Un-sweetened!!!!! I love my iced tea. I'm also another of those that believe instant tea to be the rankest form of heresy. During the summer I usually add a bit of mint (either peppermint or spearmint) from the garden. The first batch of spearmint tea of the season is one of the best parts of summer. I usually buy luzianne bags for my iced tea but if I ever stumble across tea bags with jasmine I stock up. It's soo good hot or iced.

I have to admit, a friend's daughter (fellow tea-snobs) came up with a sweetened tea this summer called 'tea sangria' which was to make the young teen daughters feel as special as we mothers did with our cold beverages. She used a loose-leaf orange pekoe, a black pekoe, fresh mint and lemon-mint from the garden, fresh-squeezed lime, and rose-water. She used honey and agave to sweeten it with fresh cherries and grapes in the pitcher for garnish and a bit of flavor. It was magnificent.

How about lemonades? MY favorite recipe in all the world calls for 3/4c. give-or-take a bit of lemon juice (FRESH!), 1/2c. raw sugar or equivalent in agave, honey, or stevia sweetener, and 1/8c. of rose-water per half gallon of water.

There's just something about rosewater that makes it good on a completely different plane.

Sweet. As in, if a spoon won't stand up in the glass, it doesn't have enough sugar. Anyone who drinks unsweetened tea is some sort of masochist who probably clubs baby seals to take the edge off a bad day.

However, I have recently switched to using half splenda/ half sugar to cut down on the calories. It isn't nearly as good, but it will have to do.

Finally, good fighting words!!!

If the spoon won't stand up on the glass that means it's tea flavored syrup, not tea. Why bother with tea at all when Kool Aid tastes the same? Ack!

And yes I did club baby seals a few times but only after drinking a glass of sugar with some water and tea in it.

It's a known fact that people who drink unsweet tea are smarter.

Unsweetened tea with half of it water....like a weak tea. Some of the teas are too bitter or too strong for my taste. Sometimes a very small teaspoon or half teaspoon of sugar will take the bitterness out.

I do not like sweetened tea, they got too much sugar! If I had to get one, I would water it down.
