I calibrate all my thermos with a glass of warm water, and a medical thermometer, like you shake down & put under your tongue.
Do not use too hot of water, as you have to stay in the range of the medical thermometer.
I do not know how, but every so often, ALL of my thermometers are OFF, like way off, like 5-degrees off.

So I have to recalibrate.
Weird, especially when no one touches them.......

The Brinsea Spot check thermometer is accurate to .1 degree. I have one and so does Mary. (though she's using hers for the Emu eggs)

Ok both (2) of the pullets have both green shiney earlobes and green shanks, Jane, however, does not, she has slate.
Jane is the only one who would stand up to get her picture taken.....
I have 4 cockerals in a bachelor pad coop, as they were beating up the pullets, but did not fight amongst themselves much at all~~
I have chosen beau to be with the Ladies...he has it all going on..
However, 2 cockerals in the bacelor pad have big red hair dos............one is a blue wheaten coloration, and the fourth is a Birchen/penciled coloration...they are like jewelry.

I know! Is is just crazy. It will be up to Jake to carry on the hairy legs because I won't have any myself. When I re-home Little Man on Saturday that will be the end of the roosters who could have contributed the heavily feathered leg gene. I just can't imagine it being Isi and not getting any until now and suddenly getting three in one hatch.

Looks like the fertility has improved. The ones in the Brinsea look to be 78% fertile which beats the last time it was 52%. But it will plummet now that Isi will be the only roo of mating age. That's fine. We'll eat the eggs and wait for the new guys to grow out. I need a break anyway. I am shipping eggs to Laree next week for the NYD hatch but they should still be fertile Since Little man isn't leaving until Saturday.

Ugh!
I had, years ago, a Barred Rock hen that HAD TO BE in my washing machine.
If the back door to the porch was closed she would stalk the house & scream at me!!
Several times I opened the door to let fresh air in & I knew she would...
go into the porch & into the washing machine to lay her egg......
had to be careful not to just toss dirty clothes in & detergent as her egg would be in there.
It all stopped when she went broody in the washing machine..geeeeeze!
Locked the coop after that, for winter's cold.
But in the spring, here she would come back~~~~~~~~~wanting in the back porch for the washing machine.

A friend in Mexico imported some of these about five years ago.
I've seen them in person, and I just love their beautiful colors, especially the silkied variety.
He says he plans on bringing them to the states sometime next year afterhe gets cleared.
