I have some exciting news. About a month ago I was contacted by Elly Vogelaar, the editor of an online agricultural magazine in Europe. She was doing research for an article about Icelandic chickens for the December issue and ran across my thread on BYC. She asked if I would consider authoring the article. Luckily, before the deadline, a much more suitable person was found in the form of Johanna Hardardottir, who you may remember is in charge of the preservation group in Iceland. It is to Johanna that I send the proceeds from my efforts in the USA on behalf of the Icelandic chickens.
Well, the article is done and is available online. It is absolutely wonderful, in fact, it answers a bunch of the questions we have been asking on this thread. While copyright laws forbid copying the article, Elly invites all of the enthusiasts of the Icelandic chickens to enjoy the article here: http://www.aviculture-europe.nl/nummers/10E06A03.pdf
That is a fabulous article. Very interesting about them possibly having a unique DNA especially when there is such a variety of colors, combs and even egg color with these chickens. I love that photo of the roo at the end. He is really
. Very informative and also funny (the part about thier personalities) article. Thanks for sharing.
