but !!! Get a shot of oxy from the vet asap! Just to kick any last stragglers on out, it happens with some first timers . I am curious who the couldnt care less papa is? Stranger in the Night?

Mary your group you posted looks like many of my hens.

I am hoping and praying for Darons clean vet report as some of his came from me.

I am selecting closely among mine, for very small rose combs and all of the feathering we can get. If I go on up to Alaska it will be needed, and if we stay here then it will still be a big advantage.

I am trying to select for size, small combs and enhanced feathering. All those who dont make the cut will still be treasured Icelandics, and go to good forever homes only. I am hoping in a couple of years to see some marked results. Its traits to easily select for along with the other famous Icelandic ones. They will get plenty of time to range, along with encouraging broodiness , colors will be whatever they are. We shall see what will be.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Daron: I really hope that the test results are good news for you, I am going through the same thing here:( AND it seems the Icelandics are the ones affected most by whatever they have:*(. Trying to find a vet to run some tests to determine the cause, but my normal "companion animal" vet wanted $150+ to send samples out to a lab. That just sounds a bit ridiculous! So I will see what another vet can do tomorrow.

Really breaks my heart to think of having to cull EVERYONE. Not only the Icelandics, but a couple of my old ladies from my first batch of chicks ever.
I am praying for you, and hope that tests comes back negative for you when you find a good vet. :fl

For those of you that were guessing sex on these babies - the results are in. From left to right: cockerel, pullet, cockerel, pullet, pullet

However, I'll not be stealing any more babies from Mary - one is certainly a boy, and the other one I'm not positive on, but it's looking like a boy too.

i would like to obtain some of these beautiful birds! My family is originally from iceland (still have family there) and I would LOVE it if I could introduce these to my flock! where do I get some quality ones from?

Happy Chooks could you "unsteal" the two cockeralls when Mary isn't lookin?" Maybe put them in a nice basket with a bow and leave it by her back door.

Anyone heard from Mahonri? He said his Lilly only had 3 pups....and now nothing. I hope everything is ok with him.

Poor guy was having a rough time last night.
