Icelandic Chickens

I've been looking up things on the online translators, but I've been fussy about what I find. Maybe I should just call this one "hey you"

I did find a word for chocolate, actually, but I didn't find it suiting. The chick is a shy little thing, and very quick. He's so much different from the other chicks I've had. He's got some serious wing feathers coming in now, too. They're a very smooth brown with little bits of the black flecking I've seen on most chicks. I'm excited to see what color(s) he is as an adult!

Update on the disappearing eggs - I am wondering if it's the neighbor's nephew that lives with them that has been pilfering my birds. I've been locking up my broodies and their babies when I'm not here keeping an eye on them, and so far nothing else has vanished. I may set up my field cam to see if anyone is snooping around here while I'm at work.

New pictures of the 10 Icelandic chicks with their momma (these were all her own eggs collected and then given back to her when she went broody). They are all from the same rooster, so you can see just how different full siblings can be, and in some cases, just how similar they can be!

Love them, Mary! You just can't help falling in love with the breed because of the uniqueness of each one. Lot easier to know who is who when you can actually tell them apart!

Thanks Laurie and Mike!

It is next to impossible to get all of them in one frame and when they are together, they aren't still long enough for me to take their picture without someone being blurry. They were dusting bathing out in the main yard today. Forsaela is a fierce mom and nobody dares to mess with her or her chicks.......the flock was giving her a wide berth!

Those are real beauties Mary ! With a great Mama, the finest kind ! I'd be spending a small fortune on mealworms just to watch them as a brood . I hope and pray for broody mamas like her.

Jake, You need to start a mealworm farm! Mine is very low maintenance, takes up very little space and the Icelandics LOVE them! I don't raise them for everyday use for the whole flock but use them as special treats, especially for the hens with chicks.
BYCer WestKnollAmy has a website page with some info...
