Icelandic Chickens

Thanks Red, I appreciate the offer anyhow, I have the one young rooster from Mary Notafarm that is crested and has the RC, so he has a home, and job for the duration. He has a great temperament too, first rooster I have had that enjoys being held, when I open the pen door he is right there to welcome me. I frankly enjoy him, even if he wasnt a beautiful coloring he would be a keeper. With that temperament alone he would be a keeper. Temperament has one of the highest breeding coefficients of all traits. Good temperament produces good temperament, and vice versa. But Gose has a forever home. May his tribne increase !

Myrth I like your blog, and the sky pics, more please ! Are you going to be breeding Icelandic Dogs too? I have only seen one up close and personal and am very impressed. The folks in Iceland did a great job developing the livestock that they had. Their sheep grow wool for some of the greatest sweaters ever! And the horses are great too, for riding, pulling a cart and yes for plowing a home garden, although American owners of them look at me with horror when I say it. The folks in Iceland dont though. They are proud that their horses can do it all! I wish I had room here for a couple of them.

Mary, we have Crest !! At least one of the new youngsters has a crest, I am hoping on another, it may just need its feathers combed, not sure. They all show lines now for their combs, one MAY be wider then the others, just cant tell yet. I am hoping for a RC though.

Getting colder here, saw a few scout snow flakes yesterday and this morn. Todays high to be 44. Strong winds taking the last few leaves with it. The last several days they have come off fast. I can see several hundred yards now into the woods. Just bare wood.

Tis the season.

We are not ready for winter yet. Lots more to do. We moved a compost pile into the chicken run the other day. Then we got smart and added the space in front of the buck barn to the chicken run, now when we clean the buck barn we just have to add it to the chicken's compost pile. Here are a few photos of some of my flock.

The poor rooster is molting bad.

On top of the pile.

One on top of the pile with some of the peafowl.

Myrth, do you have and Icelandic sheepdog?

Kelly, if your guess was right, I don't know why you don't call yourself a sexing expert.
Ummmm, that was a title that was bestowed upon me by a few troublemakers in this thread.

Love them! They have some very sweet faces. I'm excited to see how that little porcelain-looking baby that Elska has turns out.

Myrth, sounds like you've been busy. The wiring in your barn kind of reminds me of how our house was when we moved in years and years ago.......it's a miracle nothing ever caught fire

Jake, I wish you lived closer. I could loan you one of my roos, lol. He's RC and comes from Shawn's flock. He even has a tiny crest under that huge comb.

What a gentleman!

Diva! Did you feel the earthquake today?!

No Icelandic dogs here. We have a German shepherd and an Australian cattle dog (aka blue heeler). The blue heeler is so smart he is almost human. I taught him to knock on the door when he wants to come into the house. If I don't hear him knocking, he will run around the house and up onto the porch to knock on the front door. He knows I prefer knocking to barking. :)

Thanks for the kind words about my blog. I have more planned, just need to take the time to DO IT. :D
