I wasn't ready yet to take him. The neverending coop project and all.

I found this when I googled. So, is the Icelandic word for blue = blar ?

The modern English word blue comes from the Middle English, bleu or blwe, which came from an Old French word bleu of Germanic origin (Frankish or possibly Old High German blao, "shining"). Bleu replaced Old English blaw. The root of these variations was the Proto-Germanic blæwaz, which was also the root of the Old Norse word bla and the modern Icelandic blár.

ETA:
Oh, I found a dictionary (English to Icelandic):
blue = blár
blueberry = bláber
dressed in blue = bláklæddur

Is the dictionary that you found online? If so could you postthe link for it? I never emagined that I would learn Icelandic, or any Norse languedge!

Im really glad that I found this thread, just in the past few days I have fallen in love with a breed of chicken I didnt know existed, "much to my husbands dismay..." And I have already learned quite a bit from you all.

Thanks everyone! I'm really looking forward to the day that I am able to bring some home.

Kathy, you have 2 gorgeous boys there and I'm sure you'll get nice babies out of both of them. I wasn't trying to sound mean before, I'm just so tired of working on this coop and want it done, so I can share in the Icelandic excitement.

Kelly,
No problem!

Here are a few pictures....
I have decided on names. What do ya think?
This is Birta (meaning light)

This is Sunna (meaning Sun)

The female here is almost totally black, and her name is Kola (meaning black). The male is just now starting to grow. He has been so small, but seems to be catching up with Kola now. His name is Kappur (meaning small vessel).

The boys from the previous picture (I'll post it again) are named Blámann (meaning Blueman) and Bleethur (meaning Suave).

I love your curiosity about languages. I am like that too. I am forever looking for references on Icelandic words which I think have roots in Old English. I am usually right and I find it very interesting.

I love the names you picked and Birta and Sunna are out of this world, they are beautiful. And a little correction, hope it is OK. KOPPUR is a small vessel and a good name. It refers to something small. It is cute. Kappur is not a word but Kapp means eagerness or zeal. Kappi means hero or champion.

Oh, thank you. I appreciate the correction! Koppur will be his name! He has been so fun to watch. He is the only one in his group to go exploring. He has always went outside his pen, until the past few days. Now he can not get through the fence, since he has grown.
