Icelandic Chickens

Thanks for all the wonderful interest in the Icelandics. I can tell you Sigrid has been reading and she is impressed with the interest as well and is going to write up a history of the Icelandics and her involvement with them. I will wait for her to finish but I will spill a tiny secret. She was the first to bring the eggs to the USA. I was always confused by that because two of her original hens are now 11 years old! She sent me some wonderful documents including her 2000 Christmas card!

I have 10 eggs incubating with the first scheduled to hatch next week. Stay tuned!

How exciting! I can't wait to see what they look like at hatch and as they grow. And I agree with Kathy, you're doing a fantastic job with this beautiful breed.

Thanks guys! This current hatch of slackers is not a confidence builder though. Hope the non-shipped Icelandics fare better. I am being patient tough. Good things come to those who wait. Right?

Yes, good things come to those who wait. And I'm sure you'll have much better luck incubating the Icelandic eggs. I've heard marans are tricky to hatch too.

They are large fowl but somewhat smaller than the big breeds. Here is a group shot with the roos for comparison. Ignore the silkies, geese and goats. I had bread so I drew a crowd. The Icelandics are in the back with a barred rock and RIR. They are five months old.
