We nearly had a disaster here last night.
It has been hotter than blazes during the day so I had the kids unplug the brooder lamps as it was 100 degrees without them.
I woke up at 5am and thought 'Ahhhhhh, I bet they didnt think to plug them back in at dark'
Ran to the barn in the near dark and its all quiet. My heart is in my throat and my stomach is turning. I reach my hand into the dark brooder and feel a pile of huddled fluff near the light.
Nothing moves. I pull my hand out of the brooder, plug in the light and sure enough, all the little fuzzers are in a ball and no one is moving.
Panic! I reach back in and start grabbing whatever I can get ahold of...tail, wings, legs. Surely something is still alive.
Whew....as little bodies are being hoisted and gently tossed around, eyes begin to open and body parts start to move.
Thankfully everyone is alive and seems ok.
It got down to about 65 in the night so they were pretty chilled. Will keep a close eye on them and make sure that they are doing well.
What an adventure!
