Icelandic Chickens

It is cold, muddy, damp, and miserable outside today. I JUST got inside and saw this post. HA, How could I ignore such a challenge? I had to go back outside, and brave the elements, just to prove that I HAVE THE PRETTIEST ROOSTERS! (with an"S") More than one, yes!

These 2 are about the age of the one you are showing, I believe, Mary. Of course they were not real cooperative with my photo shoot, but it is quite obvious that I win the Icelandics category! However, you win with the Emu kids in that variety, I agree.

Gorgeous roosters Mary and Kathy!

And Mary, you are going to give us the impression that the spoiled emu's do nothing but sleep! In a leopard print snuggie! Have you taken them to the feedstore yet?

(for those of you not in on the joke, Mary took her last baby emu to the feed store and a lady said "oh, what a cute little duckling")

I would worry if they start to Quack.

What sound does an emu make?

They whistle until about 14 months old. Wanna babysit?
Adult emus make different sounds depending on their gender. Female emus make a loud booming drum like sound. Male emus make a guttural grunting sound, similar to the sound of a pig.

I just got an email from Sigrid. She just been very, very busy. Aside from the personal, stuff she had this to say:

"Never a dull moment. I was not worried about you nor all the other enthusiastic Viking Hen lovers. I followed the thread (BYC) for a while and saw you guys were on the right track. I especially remember Kathinomo, I liked her approach. With all this said I should go back on the thread and and see what is going on. I got an e-mail from Lyle this morning with the same concern. We communicate now and then, but it has also been a long time. Lyle is very dedicated with all his lifestock. Finally, no results from the DNA study yet! I understand it is not really a big job, it just does not get done for some reason."
Sigrid

In my response to Sigrid I did suggest that this might not be the best time to check back into this thread. Hopefully she'll wait till the dust settles and find that we are still on the right track.

Mary
