Miss Polaris got her name because she is obsessed with our ATV. If it is out in the pasture, she has to be on it or under it. She has to be physically removed before we can use it. I made five trips up to the house today to bring the bags of hay to the dump trailer and I had to fight her for the seat each time!

Barn Girl got her name because she sneaks into the barn every time we open the door even just a crack. Once she gets in, she climbs to the highest spot she can find and we have to go after her. If we are down there and she thinks we might open the barn door, she waits right there until we either open it or leave. She is the one who fell between the workbench and wall while trying to lay an egg in a paint roller tray!

I love watching their personalities, too! Miss Polaris is just drop dead gorgeous! I love her hair-do!

Sunna is our wild child. She loves to be off on her own and not be bothered by the others. She loves to be up in the rafters. Well, all the girls do, actually, but Sunna the most. She taught the other girls. She is very independent. Kola likes the boys. She sticks to them like glue and does whatever they tell her to. Brita is a turd. She snarls at anyone and anything. She will purposely go find a young grow-out just to peck them on the head and let them know she is around. Snow is very meek, quiet, and "a follower." Romeo is like a Hugh Hefner knock-off.

Life is great, and even better with Icelandics!

Well after re-homing some of the roos, I'm left with Vindur, Dexter and two others. The other two will have to prove that they can get better looking than Vindur or Dexter or they'll be rehomed at the end of July.

That leaves me with 11 pullets which includes the 2 from New Years Hatch, plus any of the six new chicks that are pullets.

I'm getting about 7 eggs a week from the 2 from the New Year's Hatch.

Thanks for sharing that Kathy. I just love the ones with distinct personalities.

OK speaking of personalities, Stuart, my emu ate three of these a few days ago. (third one from the left)

Michael was up on the ladder and couldn't get down in time before he swallowed them whole! I have been a nervous wreck about it and looking at every emu poop to see if I see roofing screws. Eating metal and perforating bowel is a problem with emus. Everything needs to be kept out of their reach. Anyway, today I was walking down to the barn and I saw Stuart lying on the ground, neck twisted, face in the dirt, body flat and one leg in the air, not moving. I was sure he was dead. I bent down to find out and he lifted his head and whistled at me! OMG, I about had a heart attack. So I continue my search tomorrow for the missing roofing screws. I promise not to post pictures.

If she's laying, then Briet will be laying soon. She's just as red as this girl. Luna, not quite red enough.

She was just practicing when these pictures were taken. But I think she is laying now.

Mahonri.......11 pullets is great, plus the babies that are girls. You are going to have a great flock!

Mary........I'm betting Stuart will be fine - it has a rounded tip. And not square, like a lego. To the others - my kid swallowed a lego last year (at almost 7 sheesh). He was pulling it apart with his teeth and accidentally swallowed it. So for days we had to do the search to make sure it came out.
