And it's not against the rules to talk smack about yourself.

Mary.....adorable chicks! Since I raise wellies, I'm partial to chipmunk chicks.

Well it looks like I'll be getting a gun and learning how to shoot. Across the dirt road from us, some new people rented the house and they have 7 children. Since they are living in the country now, they bought the children two border collies from someone who claimed they had "lots of experience around live stock. " They let the two little boys, maybe 4 and 5 years old walk these two dogs past our house. Those dogs go insane when they see the chickens and break free from the leash and try to get over over fence. We went and talked to the Dad over the weekend after a near disaster and he promised that it wouldn't happen again. Well same thing happened today. This time I called animal control, filed a complaint and made sure they came out. They cited the parents and talked to them at length but I doubt it will do any good. My guess is we are facing mass losses here really soon. It would not surprise me if the six hens we lost recently were not due to these dogs since it happened about the same time they got them. So I am keeping Lukka in the layer pen which is fenced like Fort Knox and covered and also moving one of the roos into that coop. If I lose the rest of the flock I will at least have a hen and roo else to start over with. I am sick at the thought but again, totally helpless. I just called the local gun shop about buying a rifle and taking lessons. I am going to do that tomorrow. Michael told the Dad if the dogs get onto our property they will be shot on sight. He said he understood. We'll see. I hate this. Why do I have to spend what's left of my life worried about what someone else's dogs are going to do.
