Awww, that's just awful, Mary. I am so sorry about the loss.
I know it just makes ya sick to your stomach (and heart). I just hate that.
Kelly, If it is any consolation...... Miss Olive is probably my best layer. She just finished molting, is over 2 years old, and is laying an egg nearly every single day. She has always been a great layer. I love that girl!
Those postal workers! (Don't jump on me.......I worked 15 years as a letter carrier and my DH still is one so I know of what I speak!) How careless, there is no way they couldn't have known there were live chicks in there when they arrived. Shame on them for putting them in harms way.
Mary, This is not your fault....don't beat yourself up over it. Going now to check-out what's up with Lukka!

Just tell me that my Olive is from her and I'll be a happy camper.
I just went out to the coop to check (before it starts raining) and the only thing Olive is interested in doing is eating. It does look like the roosters have begun mating her from the looks of the feathers at the back of her head. So maybe soon I'll have pretty, huge eggs to taunt Mary with for giving her up.
I'll check again later! I enjoyed the Eggs in a Hole recipe and will be trying it the next time the kids are here! Don't have any bantam eggs though......NO I will NOT get them just to have cool, double holed eggs in a hole!! No, No, No.....I will NOT!
I spent forever last night trying to find a cutout of a chicken in a cowboy hat. I couldn't find one, so I think I am going to send Mary rooster mudflaps instead.
