Hey all just a minute to check in.

Kathy, yep the old Blog is no more. I got tired of it taking 3 hours to post so I am in the process of moving over to WordPress. It has excruciatingly slow. Text moves easily but pics have to be done one by one. It will be a complete different look of course but hopefully will still be nice.

Anyway keep checking in to see our progress.

Kathy which of the girls, NH or BR lays a light pink tinted egg? The BR? If so, she laid her first egg today and I have had her since May!

Nice picture everyone, snow and all.

Jake, you are in quite the quandary. Keep us posted.

Kelly, I think Anna layed today. I got an Isbar egg with brown spots! Both girls are equally red in the face so I will know for sure the day I get two green eggs! Frida has laid 25 eggs so far, none with a brown spot so I doubt she would start now. Anyway, here, it is.

Well, the brooder is all set up for my Ground Hog's Day Hatch. I'll be doing final candle tomorrow and 'lockdown' for a late Wed.... early Thurs hatch. My little featherless chick died today... guess there was something wrong with it. It was doing great until today and then just up and died.

So, I have 18 hens. Four seven week old chicks... I'm thinking 1 roo, 3 pullets... a pair of Red or speckled Sussex, a buff sussex and a black sumatra with a little do on top.

I also have 23, 4 week old chicks. 1 lavender AM, 1 BLUE WHEATEN ROO, 3 EEs, 2 Olive eggers. (1 roo, 1 pullet),
2 SFHs, 3 FBCMs and 11 Icelandics of which at least 4 are roos that I can tell now.

Awww, a little of both. I just hope they keep laying. It has been so sporadic this month.

I found my white Jave, Krystal, in the nest again tonight. She hasn't laid an egg in two days...she is a hatch mate to Kella and Kleo, 10 months old, and I'm thinking she's broody

I put her on the roost and she stayed there but I may have to take more drastic measures if she's back on the nest tomorrow night. My Icelandic girls provided 12 eggs today. I hope they keep it up!

Still got at least a month before anyone here will be sitting...babies hatched in February just wouldn't be fair to them or their mommas. There's plenty of time starting in March.......now to convince the girls of that!

Hi All

Yeah Mary much to think about, and much to do either way. More to gain just staying here and getting organized.

Good on Lukka and her babies, Lukka is the Poster Girl for how a Hen should be !!

Kelly let us know how those feather-legged chicks develop, I am really curious, to me it seems that all 3 of my cockerals are 'rough coated' compared to the other clean legged ones, the small white splashed one particularly, frankly it is a dud, croaks, doesnt crow, hasnt gotten up on a perch yet, in so many ways it acts more like a pullet then a rooster.

All of them have a few 'hairy' feathers all over, especially in the cape. I could almost cry that the big white has the SC, and not a RC. But he has the SC so he will stay here, that comb would get frozen off his head in AK. I am going to pair the smaller dark rooster with a couple of the RC hens, and one of the two SCs and see what we get. That still leaves two other roosters for the remaining hens, Blau and Bjorn, sadly Isi Isison stays here too.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

I will let ya know Jake - I'm curious how they are going to feather out as well. Besides, I'm not keeping any cockerels. And all of mine have rose combs.

Mary - I am absolutely loving this Eco Glow brooder you gave me - and so do the chicks. It's working out great, even brooding outside.
