Icelandic Chickens

Quote:

Denagard dosages:
Preventative: 8 cc/ml per gallon Give: 3 days (1st week of life); 1-2 days every 3-4 weeks

Treatment: 16 cc/ml per gallon Give: 3 - 5 days (Personally, I would give it for a full week, if I tried this).

Google for prices. I have heard that Tractor Supply carries it, too. They sell it at the online stores.

Here is one.
Thanks, I have ordered it, so that will be the first step of the experiment of the curing the birds of the disease. If it works and my flock pass negative with flying colors, then :yesss:, but if they failed the test, then I will begin the culling process. How long should I wait before having them tested again? Thanks again! :hugs

That I am not sure on. I think I would do the treatment for a week, wait 3 weeks and do the preventative, wait and do the preventative in another 3 weeks, and then have them tested. I dunno, just a thought.

By the way, there is no egg withdawal with this.

Oh Daron, I am so sorry.

Joyous - don't beat yourself up, we all make mistakes sometimes and we learn from them. When you are ready again, I'm sure plenty of people will be willing to share more eggs with you.

joyous... I'm so sorry. I hate to read stories like this.
Daron... hang tough, I suppose between Denagard and Oxine you should be able to start over.
Kathy, thanks for all the info.. I'm going to order both Oxine and Denagard and use it regularly, I don't want to ever have this nightmare.

My NYD Icelandics are looking awesome but I'll tell you, most of them are ROOS!

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm pretty careful about what I bring home, but Kathy's research said it can transmit through the shell, into the hatching eggs. I do hatch shipped eggs, which means I honestly have no idea where they came from... Food for thought.

Whoops double post.

What I meant to say is I have 2 Icelandics using the new nest boxes, 1 laying on the floor right in front of the boxes and 1 laying in the corner behind the feeder

It's only been a couple days... They'll get, eventually.

Kathy thanks for the great info, I am going to get the prophylactic treatment started tomorrow ! I think this is something that might best be done annually.

My girls have been doing 100% eggs for four days so I am pretty sure they are all clean, but never too safe ! I will do the treatment weekly for awhile. Daron when you are ready I will have some ready for you, including two beautiful roosters.

Joyous stay with us, things happen as the bumper sicker says, we learn, and we grow, you and Daron will have many sucesses, its an excellent sign that you felt bad, it wont happen again, we all learn, too often the hard way. You have a wonderful support group here, they are real family and we really are all in this together. Stay with it.

I guess I brought winter back to MI from WA, our 2nd winter storm in a week, mar coming in like a tough bear. But the calendar is on our side.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !
