Icelandic Chickens

Hi Michelle

I am betting that you will have to take the swing out of the roosts, I could never get any kind of chickens to use ones that wernt solid. Whenever I see chickens roosted in trees its on big branches, not the swaying tips.

Good luck.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Jake I think they will adjust. My "tree dwellers" were always in Birch trees which are not the most sturdy of trees. The branches would move a bit in the breeze but would move considerably more when a 2nd or 3rd bird got on the branch.

Anyway, they are eyeing it curiously, and when I set them up there they are happy enough to hang out until they think someone on the floor might have a treat. Time will tell.

And if they don't like it I know how I can stabilize it some more. It's all just a work in process.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking on here reading but thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm the person who has Hillbilly Hen's Icelandic chickens. I live on a small farm in southern Michigan where I raise hair sheep. I also have a few Icelandic sheep. I like the picture of the Icelandic dog. Looks a lot like my Border Collie. I have 3 grown and married children and 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 8 to 18. I have a dear husband that puts up with all my animal stuff and is constantly building for me LOL. Gives him something to do. I love the Icelandic chickens. My best friends mother came here from Iceland and she is 86 years old and loves to talk about Icelandic animals. She was so happy when I told her I was getting Icelandic chickens.

Welcome.

I'm going to have to Google hair sheep.

Ok, first, I am going to apologize that you may see this posting more than once.

My mother-in-law is in the hospital. She has been for a few days. She is REALLY sick. Today I found out what is all going on, and they are still doing more tests. She has blood clots in her lungs, with pnuemonia, and her heart is only outputting 14% (not sure of terminology) and they did a CT scan of her chest and found a HUGE (their words) mass in the center of her chest that is pushing on her lungs and heart. They are still running tests to find out if the mass has spread to other parts of her body, and are taking surgery. So we will be making a trip to Texas tomorrow morning as soon as I can rent the car.

What this means is that my chicken stuff is on hold. I have my parents coming over to take care of everything, and there is a lot of that stuff going on, with eggs in the bator and chicks in the brooder, but I wanted everyone to know that I plan on getting my swap eggs out on time, and meeting up to get eggs, and swap pea chicks and pick up chicks.....But if I can't do it on time, I will make it right.

I will be meeting Joyous on Saturday to refill her incubator with Icelandic eggs! Then, I'll start collecting eggs for my Swap partner and Mahonri to go out in the mail early in the week and then collecting more and meeting with karimw in the Quad Cities on Friday evening to drop them off so she can set them for the Hatchalong. Icelandic eggs will be playing a large part in the Easter Hatchalong!!

Here is the Kella Pic of the Week, contributor to the "eggsplosion"!!
