No more new chickies yet, just these little guys at 12 hours old

I had a good talk with the vet this morn, she says I can probably get all of the paperwork here to take my Icelandics up the Alcan and into AK, which I prefer to do, better in my care then the POs. She is checking with the USDA and should have an answer by Friday, maybe even tomorrow. By this time next year I am hoping to have a number of featherlegged Icelandics in AK. Most with Crests.

I have available, now, to a breeding home, a beautiful BBR RC Rooster, hatched first week in June 2011, I kept him as he was the largest rooster of the hatch, and is continuing that. He is outright gorgeous, full tail and orange hackles. I only have room in the trailer for one rooster with the hens, so he is available, I will meet anyone who wants him halfway, I am an hour north of Saginaw, 45 mins south of Alpena, and an hr east of I 75 from Grayling. I will buy gas for part of the way just to get him into a breeding home.

I also have five 3 week old Mille Fleur D'Uccle chicks, looks like 2 roosters so based on their little combs, several showing flower spots already. I would take them but not sure how they will take the winters up north of where Michelle is, without her barn, if she wanted them I'd take them to her.

The Icelandics are going to a true northern test of their hardiness, they will be sheltered but only their water will be heated, if it drops below zero then I will put a heat lamp out there too, in Wa they handled -5 to -10 with just the SCs getting nipped, on the trip back it was -22 for two days with the wind whistling through the trailer and several SCs got froze pretty heavy, the RCs just got nipped so I am feeling confident of all of these handling the winter up there alright, as I said if it goes below zero they will get a heat lamp, just in case.

Y'all need to stop posting all the baby goat pics! Makes me want to go out in the yard and drop kick Laverne and Shirley for not having babies. In their defense, we don't have a buck but.......I have a done a couple of searches on CL for fainting goat stud service.

Ah sure, rain on my parade some more.

They are so adorable - love their ears.

I need a barn, some fencing and someone to come to my house and milk them for me when I'm out of town. Oh and a herd protector as we are in mountain lion territory.

I got a PM today asking if I was selling the rooster, I replied that most people wouldnt pay that much, but, he is not for sale, I want to place him with a breeder,

he is the largest of his hatch, right from the beginning, is an excellent rooster, beautiful and full in his plummage, RC'd, all that he lacks for my flock is the featherlegs. In all other aspects he is a KEEPER.

If I have some kind of loss emergency Michelle will be in driving distance. I will be north of her a bit, not way north.

Forget about the chickens, I hope your comb and wattles don't get nipped! That's way too cold for me!
