Idaho?

This is my 3 week old black copper maran chick....any thoughts on the color that's coming in on her?

She looks like she has more than a touch of mossyness...either that or she has some mixed genetics in there. If she's not pure ER/ER then color leakage would be expected in the juvenile feathers. She might lose the stripes when she molts. I wouldn't use her in a BCM breeding program but she could lay some really nice colored eggs. It seems like the off colored birds lay the nicest eggs. Not fair. lol

I lost one of my Coturnix Quail babies this morning. It was only about a week old and got spraddle leg. Yesterday morning i used a band aid to make a hobble to try and correct the spraddle leg. last night it was doing fine. I put a new band aid on him and went to bed. This morning I found him in the water dish. So sad. I'm such a baby when it comes to this type of stuff.

Oh no! It is always sad when you lose one, I know!

Hope the rest are doing well!

What does mossyness mean? Is that the barred markings or something else?

Mossyness refers to the copper and/or straw markings intermixing with the black. It can have a barred or penciled look. It's not uncommon to see in BCM youngsters when they start to feather, mostly on the wings....but if it covers the whole body and doesn't blend out by six weeks then the bird isn't good for breeding. The bird you showed almost looks like it has actual barring. It will be interesting to see how it looks upon maturity. I would guess that this bird will have a lot of color where it should be black. If it's a female, I'd put her in your layer pen. The mossy females often lay very nice eggs.
