Idaho?

Ok... so I don't like the pics of the eggs, but here goes.... They're darker in person... so the other eggs are like a good brown egg, not a light brown egg like it looks in the pic, and the new eggs are a darker reddish brown...

And this is Sophie, the Marans BSL, I'm told she's a cross from a Buff Orpington and Cuckoo Marans, no shank feathering at all on Sophie... she's a large hen, a bit bigger than my 2 orpington hens...

And this is for you Michelle... Is this a Splash Wheaten?

Eggs are tricky to photograph. The light has to be just perfect to get them to look the way you see them in person. :)

Beautiful birds! Yes, that male does look like a splash wheaten. It looks like he's on a mission to go somewhere. hehe

I kinda like the orpington x cuckoo marans for sex links. I love the bigger birds. My black orp (Coal Man) would make some nice SL. I'll have some golden cuckoo marans hens to work with next year, so that might be fun! I think I'd rather use a blue orp, though. I might have to retire Coal Man and keep one of his sons. I'm going to raise blue orps for our meat birds this coming year so I'll have plenty of orp boys to pick from. The ones I processed this year were huge! I thought they would be all feathers since they were so fluffy, but they weren't. Decisions ...decisions. :)

Here's one of my golden cuckoo marans boys. He only has one copy of the barring gene, but he's really big for this color variety, so he's in the program to help me get some size into this flock.

Wow, that is a pretty bird!! I've never really liked barred birds, (don't ask me why), but I've seen some pics of breeder quality BR's and now your golden cuckoo roo, wow, beautiful birds!!

And lilwhispers... your post made me laugh about the hatchery.. holy moly, did it say over 1000 eggs?? now that's some serious hatching, or else a serious addiction, haha!!

The orps do get big, did you process many this year for meat?

I think it said 90,000 chicken eggs! Wow!
Nice rooster Michelle

So do the hens have only the gold barring or do they have light and dark together like the roo? Interesting looking.
The hens aren't as vibrant, but they do have the gold heads and black barred bodies. It's not fair that the male marans are the ones that get to be so pretty. LOL

I'm not a huge fan of silver cuckoo, but I love the contrast of the golden cuckoos. I'll have some golden cuckoo olive eggers this spring! My olive eggers the past two years have been either black with gold or silver hackles, or blue. I decided to go for a change this year.
