IDEAL Hatchery: When did you get your chicks?

aww how sweet is that well I guess you answered my question without even knowing it I was wondering what my chick was with all the specks all over it lol. Its an easter egger.

Yeah my EE patterns range from solid bars to fine stripes and spots, but all have a some form of line running down each side of their backs, some darker than others. Congrats on an EE surprise! Certainly one of the more beautiful chickens from the pictures I've seen. I'm newish to chickens and only ever seen the basic RIR, Leghorn, barred rock, and the various hybrids they make. Oh I also have a buff orpington, but the pictures of Easter Eggers look really colorful and beautifully feathered, not to mention the signature blue eggs- cant wait for my first blue eggs! Stormy, let me know if you get that happy phone call at the crack of dawn that your chicks arrived at the post office tomorrow morning

They already came can you believe that? Today the post office called me at about 1:30 PM and the lady asked me if I wanted her to bring them to me I said sure so she made it out here at 2:30 with my box of chicks. Some of the white/yellowish chicks have blue legs but the one with spots and stripes has yellow legs I had only seen EE's with slate color legs I owned a few 2 yrs ago so I never knew they came with yellow coloring on the legs.

Yay glad they made it today! What are the light yellowish ones? Did they give you any extras? I didn't get any extras in mine, guess its warm enough from Texas to Mississippi this time of year that they didn't need any extras for heat.

They need to have an area about 95 degrees when they are less than a week old. Drop that temp about 5 degrees per week till at ambient. They should also be able to move to a cooler area if they get too hot. You will find they will return to their warm area when they get chilled after wandering about in the cooler area. Don't try to keep their whole brooder at 95 degrees!

Oh I got the brooder all set for them, I mean I've read lots of other posts that IDEAL sends "packing peanuts" or extra chicks (usually left over roos) just to keep chicks warm when you place a small order of less than 25 chicks. Either way my dozen made it healthy and well
