Walking wolf...In Ideals first post..in their first sentence, they said "Ideal is not MG clean.."

I think they said that because they can't say with 100% certainty that they are MG clean, since they have birds allowed in runs who will be exposed to whatever is outdoors in the big wide world. But apparently they have not had any issues with deaths or illness or egg production loss at all, so they are not suffering from an MG epidemic with sick birds all over the place. They aren't selling sick birds, there is just that slim chance that MG could be in their birds just as their is that chance for most birds you get from anywhere.

"And that having an MG clean flock would actually be doing a disservice to our customers"...

Redhen I discussed this with them and that is not because they tested positive it is because they take the stand that MG is so prevalent that almost all flocks have been exposed. Your flock, my flock, everybody else flock on here is NOT MG clean, we should buy from nobody then?

The statement was a legal statement. It IMO is said to protect them from a frivolous law suit if my 8 month old OEGB from them gets sick and dies from MG. Them or any other breeder making the claim is much like the claims of show quality, no bird is show quality unless they win or place in a show.

As much as I hate going down this road, most people have herpes whether tested or not. There are many strains of it and if you ever have had a cold sore you have the virus even if it is dormant. 3 out of 5 I believe is what is currently testing results and you can bet some don't need to bother testing it is obvious. Sometimes it is necessary to get passed the hype and look at the agenda, why are these constant attacks on Ideals reputation with no basis in fact? COMPETITION

I'm just upset because if i had known all of this stuff i would not have bought from them. I would have taken my chances and bought some hatching eggs from people i trust on here...I guess i just always thought that people/companies that sold animals to people should have to be totally disease free..OR at least when you place an order with them they have to tell you that they are not MG clean. Granted, i could have asked...never even thought of it though..as i'm sure 90% of their customers dont. I just dont think its right to not tell their buyers...thats all..

It was not a rumor...it was info that we needed to be aware of. I personally am not going to panic but at least now I know. Also, it was not slander because it was true. We gave Ideal the chance to respond and they did. What we do with that info is up to us. I thank the original OP for posting this info and giving us all the opportunity to learn a thing or two.

Ideal....thanks for responding. I think that many novice poultry owners (including myself) assume that since you are a major hatchery with a great reputation that you are disease free. You do not claim to be MG free and we should not assume anything. But at least now we have the info and can learn from it.

In order to be Mycoplasma clean you must test your breeder birds every 90 days. This can be done by a blood sample sent to the lab for plate agglutination test or swabbing the bird and submitting the swab for RRT-PCR. This way you can tell if your birds are mycoplasma clean.

FYI:

Just going thru my NPIP Directory of Participants, the following hatcheries are MS and MG Free:

Hoover Hatchery - Iowa

Yep, folks that is it........
