As for intelligence, I certainly wouldn't accuse someone of lacking it simply because they believed something that was wrong. "The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God." So someone could lack true wisdom, but still be EXTREMELY brilliant. Take Stephen Hawking, for example. I'm sure some on the other side would call us Christians "ridiculous and uneducated" too, so hurling names doesn't do much for proving a point.
What science curriculum are you using? We used Bob Jones and Apologia. You know, you could always write a letter of complaint to your textbooks' publishers and inform them of how their material could be improved.
