The roo - still no tail.

Blackbeard with 2 whole tail feathers. Molting is so rough.

Taji the slo wanted his picture taken. Hes molting around his neck and butt. Hes still my sweetie though and handsome to me!

Then i managed to get a couple of the male spitz chick. He reminds me of drumstick with the crest sticking up. Still not my fav though.

The girl didnt want to cooperate. Her crest goes forward and backward and everywhere. They both look like an old man with bushy eyebrows.

Bear, our Speckled Sussex, took the top roost. I think she is taking advantage of molting time to raise her status in the pecking order. This may spell trouble in the future.
Our "Special Sussex" (Chizzy) also worked her way up the pecking order. She can sometimes be a bully but DS loves her and won't let me even discuss selling her. Very pretty bird, but quirky. Right now she's molting and decided she likes the neighbor's yard more than ours. Every morning she slips under the fence & enjoys the solitude. She finds her way home every night.

I like the looks of your white poult. Will you keep or eat the turkeys? Now that you've had them a while, which type of poultry is your fav? Do you still have quail? If yes, will you keep them over the winter or start again in spring?

:lau Poor guy! At least the feathers he has left are nice & shiny.

I'd like to give you a SLO female to breed to Taj. He's a very handsome fellow - even though he's molting now. I think he deserves to pass on those genes, don't you? Think about it and let me know if you've got room in the coop.

Taj's comb looks nice & straight, lacing's crisp, beak/legs are the right color, and his eyes are a unique lighter color. We grew out some extra pullets this summer and we need to decide soon who's staying/going. I'd love to keep them all, but that's just not possible. In a way, I've come to think of your chickens as "Faraday's Flock - South," and I really enjoy seeing them all grown up. (ie- With the exception of the comb, Blackbeard looks almost identical to Mr Dummy.)

You know, i was looking at his comb yesterday trying to remember if that point got hit with frostbite last year. They all got hit some, the other black roo got it the worst being the low guy on the totem poll. Taj got a little as his points aren't nice and crisp as they use to be.

Always got more room in the coop for pretty little ladies. Especially once all the youngster roos are out the door. I've got 4 that either need to find a home or they will be dinner! Plus 2 big ones that need to go on.

I've got a young black cockerel that something has happened to that needs to be put down. He can hardly walk. He drags his butt on the ground. I tried to take video of it, but its too big. He "gets around" but I'm more concerned that he's hurting. I'll just try taking a picture instead of video.

Q: Keep or eat the turkeys?
A: We will keep at least 2 hens. If I end up with a tom, it's going to deliver it's final act on the chopping block stage.

Q: Which type of poultry is your fav?
A: The chickens are my favorite. In part because we got them first. They are also willing to let us handle them and they have a lot of personality. The ducks are climbing up the list though to a close second. They come running into the coop (the duck section that is) when I walk in. They quack in a way that sounds like they are gossiping as they anxiously wait for food or treats.

Q: Still have quail?
A: Yes. A lot of them actually. I think we currently have ~40.

Q: Will you keep them (quail) over the winter or start again in spring?
A: We are keeping them over the winter in stacked cages I built. They are all in the cages now located in our garage, which will be heated to ~50F over the winter. Here's an article showing the build with pics: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/3-tier-quail-cage.75243/

And here's another reason why I call my seramas, "my useless chickens" ....

This is what I found in the run this morning. I've seen quail eggs this small, but never a chicken egg. At 1st I thought it was a small pebble. It's only the size of a marble.

I have an Orpington from April's hatch but her face is still pale. I know the serama from the May 1st hatch is laying. I also have a red-faced Leghorn from the May 1st hatch who's red-faced, but my guess is the serama made an oppsie.

Sadly, this is my only egg so far today. :(

I just hope my quote about DIET EGGS, was not misunderstood as to put Seramas on a DIET..
