Illinois...

I'm not sure, how big is it?
I'm thinking mite.

It is micro.. phone is zoomed and only a few inches away. That makes me think more but it looks like a tick .
I could have both I guess. I have some bites (on me) that look like tick bites but others just scratchy bumps.
Pretty sure I for some tiny mites biting me when I shoveled all the bedding or the coop. Nothing crazy though. Itchy legs, like the got me just above my socks. Went away though. I intend to add DE first and see if it takes care of them. I like the idea of sulfur too, but not the smell. Chickens are able to dust bathe outdoors again, so they'll be getting wood ash added to the dust bath as soon as I burn all the sticks I have laying around.

As for your situation, I too vote tick. They start out tiny like anything else and then grow. My in-laws on TN live in a very wooded area and rocks have been a problem since they moved there. Opossums love them, but they have a liking for poultry too. MIL use home-ortho in the house around all the baseboards, windows and doors to keep them out. But venturing outside is venturing into their territory.

Incredibly windy!
I feel like I'm going to get blown over inside my house.
Here too. I had opened the back door to my garage with the main door open & the gust blew through knocking down objects and sweeping bedding & feathers everywhere! (Yes, I keep my useless bantams in the garage over the winter.)
