How do you make sure the chickens don't eat the turkey feed?
We've been considering possibly add one or two or maybe ducks this year so I've bee trying to find more information. How are their temperaments?
everybody thinks the others food is better

but I have feed everybody the turkey grower feed for a few months when I had trouble getting the chicken feed i wanted.
The grow out boys grew really big so i may do that again

they didn't eat as much either. I guess the higher protein, 22 1/2%, filled them up. The molting chickens grew some weird big feathers though. The higher protein is ok until about 30% then it is bad for chickens. Oyster shells always available for the hens.
I feed fermented feed 2 or 3x a day. what they can eat in a half hour or so.
I put the chicken feed in a side pen and part of the coop the toms can't get into first. Then feed the turkeys out in the yard. Everybody wants to eat what ever was put out last, so the turkeys take over whatever is put out last... the chickens will eat the turkeys leftovers. Which isn't much.
The turkeys can be jerks. My toms don't like certain colors once they are a year old. Red, yellow, some purples will set them off. Reflective tape on shoes and clothing. I sent one to freezer camp before I found how to put them in their place. I got tired of a 25 # bird jumping on my butt with both feet.

I grab them by their ankles and shove their chest on the ground. Take my finger and peck their head hard like another tom would, The other toms come over and peck too

. When I let him up he is too busy fighting with the other toms to think about me for weeks... some people don't have this problem, and some do.. so it may be my birds.. or me.
