Ok. So I have quite a few new layers. And I also know that sometimes until their system matures, the eggs will be smaller. However, in my 4 years of raising orps, I've NEVER had orp eggs this small. The egg on the right is my ccl. She lays HUGE eggs. Next to it is a regular orp egg. The next two are also orp eggs, but they are closer to my silkie serama egg size. Even my spitzhaubens lay bigger eggs. Any justifiable cause for this? Stress? They all want the exact same nest box even though there are 3 identical ones. They will lay their eggs on the floor, under the coop (which is where I found the blue ccl one and the smaller darker one this morning....in the dirt and mud) i tried using an all flock with a higher protein, but felt the shells were thinner. I could offer access to oyster shells, but they just poop on it instead of eating it. So I'm back to layer feed.
Any thoughts?
