Illinois...

I set 24 spitzhauben eggs. 23 have made it to hatch. Not too shabby. Tomorrow night is 21 days. I took them off turning and increased humidity Wednesday evening. Tonight I went to quickly check to make sure they were more or less facing the correct way so i could see pips. I could already see internal pips and hear cheeping. Second from the last egg to check, I turn it toward me to find a little beak poking through! An early arrival! I added some more water and closed her up. Oh how I wish I had a broody right now!
:wee
Hooray! Chicks are on the way! I can't wait to see them. (hint hint)

A broody for you

@BReeder!
Well, it looks like I may only have one quail egg developing. They're 1/2 way through incubation and all are glowing brightly, but one. It doesn't hurt to wait some more, so that's I'll do.

On a bright note, the quail laid 2 eggs today! I have not seen the male mate or heard his "crow," but I have seen some foam in the droppings. Hopefully he's mating and just being shy when people are around. Worst case, I save the eggs up and start again.

Sorry. They were crowing away. They must have started breeding several days later though. I know that male you have was breeding because he just finished the act before I grabbed him to give to you.

Darn chickens! Murdered my raised bed garden day before yesterday. The wind blew over my access panel and they had a good time with the sprouts.
Started over again yesterday.
Ackkk :barnie :rant

I have a bed between the house and the poultry yard. They went over a 6ft chain link and destroyed kale that had overwintered. My cousin got those eggs and many were green. :sick we thought they were bad, but they didn't smell. Later I found out it was the kale. I plant tomatoes and squash there now.
