Illinois...

Lost my young double white recessive hen last night. Found her dead in the shavings. No injuries whatsoever. Looks like she just fell off the perch and died. My double whites are the softest things.

@Faraday40 was going to save you some of her pretty white feathers for your crafts. How do you get them to come out without tearing up the feather? I tried just pulling, but my hand strength is weak. Or is it too hard right now because she is in rigor?

Thanks for thinking of me.
I've only plucked feathers shortly after death (just a few at a time), so it could be the rigor.

Sorry for your loss
I found one dead last week. The up and down weather is when most of my meat mutts are found dead.

Anybody want hatching turkey eggs? I think I saturated the FB farm swap group. Hate to see them go to waste.

My seramas are miserable. They want outside, but I dont want the younger ones getting soaked. Even under the covered tractor it gets wet. And the silkied ones dont have as much protection as a smooth feathered one. They end up looking like soaked wet mops. I hate the thought of the silkies babies getting too cold and wet. Im ready for warmer (not hot) and DRY weather!
