I'm the one that is blessed with her. She is calm, doesn't tear up things, good with poultry and good company. Now if the turkeys would accept her....

I had another chicken go broody Friday. Yesterday she was on an afternoon break looking normal. At lock up another hen was on the nest. I looked in all the nest boxes and didn't see her. This morning I seen she was on a roost looking poorly. Found her dead with a purple comb and wattles a bit ago. She was one of my barred CX mixes from 2017 or 18. She was a good broody and will be missed.

Due to about a week of no silver laced orp eggs (broken & eaten.... only wet, sticky shell fragments remained), I moved my laced orps into a little separated coop breeding coop.

Saturday (day of the move)= a whole, unbroken, perfectly clean egg.
Sunday = egg goo stain in the nest box, no shell left, then later broken egg shell remains found in the run
Today = broken egg on the hard wood in corner of nest (could have missed the bedding) Pic below

Does this look like an impact crack? or a pecking crack? The shell is not thin or brittle, but also not a thick pullet shell. My orps are excessively clumsy, so some occasional broken eggs are to be expected. I really hope they're not learning to eat their eggs.

Thank you! It went perfectly and we got good news. He likes to keep us on our toes and ensure I have enough stress to keep finding white hairs at the ripe old age of 33 but today was a really good day.

I would also think it is an impact crack, or caused by clumsiness. Definitely does not look like caused by chicken pecking, trying to eat it. I know that once an egg is broken ,,,,, IT IS FAIR GAME FOR ALL TO SNACK ON.
