I'm getting the itch. Anyone want to hatch some eggs?

Wow... Hopefully the two Blues make it.. I always love to see what others are hatching.... Personally I don't know exactly what it is I want if I were to purchase eggs, I bought a couple Standard Cochin chicks to go with a lone chick I had and I don't think I am going to keep them...something about feathered feet...lol... not to crazy about it...
Oh I LOVE the feathered feet!!! And bantam cochins are so adorable with beautiful feathering!!! My hubby says she looks like she has girly curves

And since we don't have a lot of room, bantams are perfect!!! we also had a silkie with those feathered feet...adorable fluffball...LOL!!!

LOL Yes, and some people just love those naked necks...If I walked out to the coop and met one of those it might scare me for life!! LOL... I had a Dominique roo that had some silkie in him, he fathered many chicks for us that had the feathered feet, some also had that blackish grey meat....to hard to swallow...literally...lol...

Sold all those pullets and made the cockerels into enchiladas with lots of sauce... Started over with the flock I have now... Pretty satisfied with it so far, of course we raise for dual purpose so...yah....

LOL...so funny to hear about chickens and raising from another viewpoint! Don't laugh...but I can't even eat my girls eggs

Totally silly I know but just can't do it! Hubby says we could never live on a running farm because I would name all the animals and we would end up with all pets and no food

LOL.. Hey, I have a friend who cannot either...Its a personal choice for sure! We name the breeders, others are called what they are...dinner... I have a rooster out there that I really thought would make the cut but he is starting to act like I don't want him to act and told DH that he isn't going to make it, I wont be attacked....I started calling him baked tonight... My poor daughter, she says the only thing safe around here is the cat

I wanted to do a quick update. So the last egg that pipped showed no progress the next am so I went ahead and removed the top of the egg for it. There was no blood or anything but when it finally came out several hours later it was trailing what looked like yolk and guts, ew. I thought for sure it would die, but...I left it in the incubator and the next day it was still alive and had absorbed all the yucky stuff mostly and had just a little hanging out. I again left it alone in the bator and this morning it is all gone but for a scab on its belly. I put antibiotic cream on it and put it with the other chicks. It is smaller than everyone else and not fluffy (I think because I put antibiotic cream on the inner membrane at first when I interfered with the hatch), but it is walking around peeping and no one seems to be picking on it.

You did exactly the right thing! Your baby should be just fine and yes these little guys tend to be smaller than their hatchmates. Watch to see this baby is eating, drinking and pooping normally

Sometimes they do need to absorb their yolk a bit more in a difficult hatch so leaving them in the bator to complete the process is exactly what they need. Just make sure its hatchmates do not try to pick and babies scab.

Do you think it will catch up or will it always be small?

I'm not seeing any movement in the other 3 eggs but I am going to leave them until tomorrow night just to be sure. Today is day 23 so by tomorrow if there is nothing I should be safe to pitch them I think.
