My chickens:

Barred Rock, Delaware, SL Wyandotte, two Silkies, two Polish, 3 Cochins and one polish mixed with silver spangled hamburg.

What about you?

We have French Copper Marans ( hen & roo)... Cuckoo Marans (2 roos)... Anconas (4 roos & 4 hens)... Chanteclear (1 hen)... Wyandott (2 roos & 3 hen)... Partridge Chanteclear (4 hens)... Barn Mix ( 1 "rumpless" roo and 2 hens)... Ameracauna ( 4 hens) and one German named one that I am not sure of but she is sweet!

They are all under a year old and we are over run by roos.... guess this wasn't the year to start a flock.... hahahaha. We are in the process of trying to re-home most of the roos as we have close neighbours and we don't want them to get ticked with us.

I just love our chickens though.... they are so cool to spend time with and it is usually my Sat morning thing to take my coffee and "be one with the chickens" for a few hours.

PS.... if you know of anyone looking for some sweet roosters, please let me know!

I don't know many chicken people, other than my breeders. I just went to a chicken show last Saturday. It was awesome! Loved every minute of it

That's where we aquired six of our new chickens (2 of which are roos). So far we only have two roos out of eleven. I know that might be a little too much for a small flock, but one is a silkie rooster, and he is very tame. The other is a cochin rooster. I can't wait to see my cochins full grown! The boy is already HUGE and his comb isn't even red! His hatch mate has no signs of a comb yet!~ They may be around 3 months old.

I spend most of my free time with them. Great replacement for TV and computer if you ask me. Tonight we are expanding their run. Hopefully they can use it long enough before it starts to get really snowy

You know how it is!

Did you have your flock last winter?

I really want some Ameracaunas.. Didn't have any at the snow I went to.. And they also only had bantam chanteclears. I wanted a standard!

Welcome:welcome Ginger Girl... I am relatively new to chickens too and am having a blast with them. I recently got 5 little Silkie Chickens which I adore. We also have 4 roosters... 14 laying hens... and a stuborn Racing Pigeon which adopted us a couple of weeks ago... haha. This site is wonderful and the people all seem so friendly. Anything a newbie like us could ask... the answer will be found on here.
So what kinds of chickens do you have???? Ours are all Heritage breeds: Ameracauna, Ancona, Wyandotte, Copper Maran... and of course my new babies... the Silkies.
Have fun looking around on here.... these guys are a wealth of information!!!
See ya around the "coop"...

Hi AOXA... I got our Ameracaunas from a lady in New Germany which was breeding them but has since closed up the coop and moved back to Ontario. We have 5 Hens but won't be breeding them this year. If I hear of anything I will let you know about it though. I know they seem rare but one never knows. I actually check on Kijiji all the time and find a lot of chickens for sale on there as well as some breeders. Even if they don't have them now... maybe these breeders will have some come spring. Good luck finding them though and I will keep you in moind if I hear of any!

I have six golden comets...and love them. They are great layers and very friendly! This site is the greatest. I didn't realize that people were into their "chicks" so much. Lot to learn, and learned alot on here.

My farmers co-op can't even find any for chicks when they sell them this spring! Even the mutts. I really don't care. I just want pretty eggs

Doesn't need to be pure. They are very rare if pure. EE's are so common in the states, but here it's very uncommon. They didn't even have any pures that were being shown at either show I went to this fall.

Just PM me if you notice any

I would really appreciate it! I check Kijiji in my area, but still nothing. Someone is willing to send me eggs from Ontario in the spring. I would rather have chicks, but I wouldn't want to get them mailed. I would be willing to drive to NS from NB to get them. I drove to Truro to get my SQ buff orpington hen!

Another breed that is so very common in the states, but you don't see very often around here.

AOXA.... I will do that if I hear of anything..... they are such cool eggs... ours are green and I love getting a batch of 5 or 6 eggs a day... some brown, some white and then the green.
