Dear Chicken Girl Diary,
It is Day 212 and my Black Copper Marans chicken Bebe' has not yet laid an egg. Do you think she's mad at me? I hope I get an egg soon.
Thanks diary, I feel like you're the only one I can really talk to sometimes.
Love,
me:)

(ps I'm being silly/fun, not b*tchy, there was a joke about the "chicken girl diary" in previous posts!)

Not like we're getting swamped with eggs got to talk about something lol! BTW kids i do not recommend cooking anything if there is even the slightest chance the ingredients for mimosas are in the house...just a thanksgiving public service announcement.

I'm betting that the RIRs will pop something out before the EE does. My little Red is a machine -- my EEs, not so much, and one is molting at 10 months.

Here's hoping!
I heard that EE's tend to take longer to lay in general.

Just jump in w/ the rest of us and our freeloading chickens. From what I've understood, as long as you're feeding your girls a healthy diet there's not a whole lot you can do to encourage them to lay any faster than nature dictates.

How often do you think it happens that a chicken is a dud and will never lay eggs? I can't remember if this is the post where they talked about dual gender chickens. https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/03/100315-half-male-half-female-chickens/

You have purchased ornamental chickies. I have a red Bantam Cochin Frizzle myself knowing she would be for ornamental purposes. Once they lay (which can take a while) you should get around three eggs a week from each hen.
I have a sebright bantam and she was marketed as ornamental & was to lay ~50 eggs a year, but laid 5-6 days a week. Unfortunately she stopped producing in early Oct when she went into a molt. I suspect she's done until spring, but she was one of my most consistent layers until last month. I miss her teeny tiny eggs.

I'm seeing less and less eggs now and more and more feathers on the ground as the molting continues. I still question whether or not a couple of them ever laid eggs. I keep seeing Jaiden in the nest, but she never lays. Yesterday an egger was in the nest, but I never got a colored egg. Is it possible that they think they need to lay, but don't actually have an egg ready? Or maybe they just like annoying the heck out of the other ladies who NEED that specific nest.

I did not purchase ornamental chickens, i purchsed dual purpose birds that only serve one purpose making poop. They don't lay and they're too cute to eat so I'm just boned.:)

Lol! I can't imagine eating Lulu or Tucks they're just so goofy and trusting. I've come to accept i can't eat anyone really. I see them way too much and know too much about them. I know people do it,i just don't see how.
I have 3 dual purpose birds. It's already been decided that they will not be used for their 2nd purpose.

I sewed a pink polka dot puffy coat for my (male) pit bull, and he happily wears it on snow days!

My son refuses to walk him in that coat. He says they are both emasculated.
Sounds adorable :lau

Bwahahaha :lau
Seems alot safer than making drunks go on beer runs. :idunno
Me too! OITNB is awesome! :highfive:

My pug has all kinds of jackets and sweaters. He loves them. Favorite is a camo one, couldn't find a pic, but here's last years Christmas one.

And his new life jacket for fishing. :p

That pug is cute. I've always dressed my small dogs in little sweaters, Halloween Costumes, etc. Winky isn't as cold blooded as Ruby, so He only wears them in the coldest part of winter. Ruby has a few sundresses :)

Hey my good chicken people! :)

I'm gonna be offline the next coupla days, hosting Thanksgiving at my new house for the first time for 13+ people....been cooking and prepping and whatnot...a little stressful, but it's all good! :)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy and drama free day! :) Love you all, and safe travels to anyone who will be on the road. Seeya in a couple of days. Stay warm and keep your chickies locked up tight!

XO,

Cindi

Hope your Thanksgiving was a success. We had a great time and dinner was wonderful.
But, on the downside my friend and I did not get much visiting time except during dinner. That's usually how it goes.

And how the heck do you keep everyone from coming in the kitchen. :smackOne of the out-of-town guests was trying to be helpful, but was really irritating me. She kept bringing all these platters into the kitchen and I'd say "thank you for the help, but please don't bring any more" and here she repeatedly kept coming in. To me it's not a lot of help if you are forcing me to have to stack all of my good dishes, antique glass, etc because I'm running out of counter space.
