I'm proud of you for taking them in and not getting all freaky about it,to me that says loads about your character as a person. :hugs

I read enough, and received enough opinions... and made the decision to take them. Even DH, who had never really been *on board* about the chickens, put together a small run for the hen for her quarantine... and was peed about their living conditions..... never saw him like that.....

Best case scenario, we have 8 new hens... worse case, they'll have a few months of freedom and happiness before they'll be moved to freezer camp.

I honestly think you've got 8 new ladies. I think they're going to be happy, healthy and lay you many, many eggs. I'm an eternal optimist and good things only return good things. ;)

That's not a giant Coors can, it's just a reaalllly little egg. It looks bigger in the awful flip-phone-mirror-selfie, but it's a mini, from my Mille Fleur d'Uccle, Flower.

:bun:wee:celebrate:love:D:thumbsup:plbb:yesss::yesss::yesss::yesss::highfive::highfive::highfive:

Um, can I get a "HELL'S YEAH!!!"???? It only took 27 weeks!!

I gotta go check poor Flower's little butthole, and make sure all is good down there, I just ran around like a freak, did the happy dance, and shared my very first egg pics with y'all!!!!! :woot:woot:woot:woot:woot

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 1ST EGG!!
:wee :ya :celebrate :bow :thumbsup
Don't worry about the size, they will probably get a little bigger. Might take some time as it did with most of mine.

I went out to close up the coop a while ago and found this giant egg still warm in the nest. Don't know who laid it, but I bet her butthole hurt.

I must be crazy trying to hatch eggs. I can't eat this many eggs now, so I give a lot of them away. I have 3 dozen in the frig now and just used a bunch and gave away a bunch. But..... chicken math lol.

Hahahahahaha, I *am* Stephanie Plum, I even got a Joe and the crazy-assed NJ family to boot! No Ranger though. :)

Here is another beautiful egg pic, with a store egg and a quarter (easier to find a beer in my house than spare change, lol). Feast yer eyeballs on this beauty, my peeps!

I just clenched...you make sure all your hens are rightside out before you shut the coop?

Did you try that quarter in the coin-slot butthole to see who it fit? :lau

@pitbullmomma :wee yayayayay!! You got one! :bow

I had to cover my poor Lucy with Pick No More. Literally covered her in the stuff. Then realized she's wet and cold! Crap, had to make her a little caged in area in the coop so she could dry. Put some of that Pick No lotion in my palm and called the other girls over to test whether they would be disgusted by the taste. Oh yes, they hated it! I must admit, I tasted it too, its not THAT bad.

Does that stuff work on taste or rather covering the red color of blood?

You'd be welcome. Got to have strict rules for that thread though. Got to talk to the chickens. Got to have a morning outfit that a bag lady would scold you for. Got to have at least one bodily chicken function on you by 9am . And most importantly you cannot at any point and time have a stick up your butt.:)
+1 on all of this.

If I wait for a second egg, that first one might go bad, useless as my chickens are, lol!

Maybe in the morning I'll boil it up and eat it with a piece of toast. I never ate a real (not store) egg before! I can't wait to taste it. :)
There might be *stuff* in the eggs of new layers. For the first few months when I started getting eggs I'd crack them into a ramekin before adding them to a pan or recipe. Somethings there's "meat" in it. It's easier to scoop out those bits before you add it. Some people don't mind it, but personally, I do.

Ohhh that was something else. :lau You get your adopted girls yet?
I think that was her irish coffee talking.

So far, so good! They already come towards me when they see me coming... they know the orange bucket means food, and the funny looking lady in mismatched jammies and blue paisley boots means treats!!!
Mine come running when they see a bucket too, but sometimes buckets are their eggs and they start pecking and look at me like?

I get some very round eggs that don't really fit into egg cartons, even the jumbo ones. It's weird. I've gotten a couple that were huge, I want to get a scale so I can start weighing them.
I get about 50 eggs a week and I just traded 3 1/2 dz eggs for 7 pumpkins. If they're going to eat a ton of food they can at least pay for it themselves.
